Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Edwards.
Lance, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a transportation and sport cyclist for over 30 years, more than 20 of years have been in Los Angeles. I’ve logged over 30,000 hours of riding time on the streets, open roads and trails in the LA metro area. To me Los Angeles is one of the great cities of the world. We have beautiful beaches, mountains, wilderness areas, all encompassed in an amazingly diverse and spectacular urban landscape. Downtown Los Angeles itself is a microcosm of the world in a few square miles. Historic Olvera street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, The Arts District, The fashion district, Restaurant row, Grand park, LA live, Disney Hall, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Broad, amazing street art, spectacular architecture, shopping, nightlife, farmers markets, street fairs, live concerts. There’s always something going on in DTLA!
After having introduced dozens of friends and family to cycling by giving tours of this city I love and having worked briefly with another touring company, I knew that I could provide a better experience to people who wanted to get to know the city. The best way to see any place on the planet is on a bicycle. We can cover a lot of ground and at the same time have an intimate experience of our environment while getting healthy exercise and having zero impact on the environment. I wanted to share my love of cycling and the city of Los Angeles with as many people as possible, so I decided to start StreetVelo Tours.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges when starting a new business. Licenses, insurance, web design, marketing, safety training all presented us with issues to overcome but with the help of my partner Dameon Guess, who is a successful business man in his own right, we were able to accomplish all of it. Almost nothing feels better than doing something that is difficult and doing it right.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Streetvelo tours – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
StreetVelo Tours is an Eco – Adventure touring company. We focus on tours of the greater Los Angeles area by bicycle. We specialize in tours of the downtown Los Angeles area because it gives the greatest bang for the buck. Within a few square miles we can show you, breathtaking skyscrapers, street art from some of the most prominent artist in the world, the LA river bike path, amazing views of the city from high atop of Elysian Park, nature areas where you won’t even know you’re in a city anymore and ethnically diverse cultures from around the world.
We are known for our extensive knowledge and love of this great city. After your ride with us you will know the city like a native. We will show you hidden gems you won’t find on any map or tour book. Even guests who have lived in LA their entire lives have told us they learned so much and saw things they didn’t know where here.
We are known for our dedication to rider safety and comfort as well as being able to customize each tour to fit our guest’s specific interests.
We are most proud of our great sense of hospitality and welcoming. We treat every guest as if they are friends visiting our hometown. We also pride ourselves in our bikes and equipment. We have top of the line bikes which are inspected and tuned by professional mechanics. Our helmets are high visibility orange for safety, with visors and adjustable fit.
What sets us apart from other touring companies other than the features already mentioned is our care in fitting each guest with the proper size bike and helmet and especially the training we give to each guest on the proper and safe way to operate their bike and wear their helmet. By the time we roll out of the bike shop our guests are completely confident and comfortable on their bikes and ready to enjoy their cycling adventure.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our long term goal is to expand our touring areas to include other environments that we know and love, such as, Big Bear Lake, Santa Barbara Wine country as well as other urban areas such as San Francisco, Portland and Seattle, as well as legendary Mountain biking locations such as Moab and Park City Utah.
- Our standard price for our daily district tour is $75. However if you purchase more than 1 tour and you use the promo code, FREERIDE you’ll get 1 tour free
