Meet Kyma Monai of Lifetime Of Style in The Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyma Monai.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Re-selling is something that I stumbled across, not knowing what would come upon it. I’ve always had an eye for fashion and loved shopping for reasonable stylish clothing to add to my wardrobe. I didn’t start getting into thrifting heavily until I moved to California from my hometown, Memphis Tennessee. The thrift stores here are plenty full with great finds. I started showcasing my fashion finds and unique style at local events around LA and through my YouTube channel, Kyma Monai, which focused on beauty, fashion and lifestyle. In 2014, I became a background actor for television shows and commercials. One of the requirements for this line of work is bringing your own wardrobe. This is around the time that I started thrifting regularly.

At the end of 2016, I started to prepare for the hiatus of the film industry due to the holidays. Work was very slow for me when the New Year began. I normally would donate my clothing to Goodwill, but I had to come up with a plan and find a second source of income to get extra money to stay afloat. I started to search for places that I could sell my gently used clothing locally and online. Most people mentioned using an app called Poshmark to sell clothing. I knew of the app, but I didn’t know much about how it worked. After watching a few videos on how to setup a closet through the app, I created my closet and came up with the name Lifetime Of Style. I staged flat lay photos of my wardrobe with my smartphone and listed them.

It wasn’t long before finding out that people would intentionally go thrifting and then resell the items on different platforms for profit. There was this whole reseller community that I knew nothing about, in which piqued my interest. I started following individuals’ stories and their process. Many of them were making six figures a year from reselling used clothing online. I started to really hone in on the art of thrifting. Knowing the quality of an item just by the feel of the fabric, identifying high-end brands by the look of the item and nametags, learning different RN codes, authenticating luxury purses and more. Five months into starting my closet on the app, I was finally able to have a lucrative income and see my closet grow. As a part-time reseller, I now have over 100k followers of my Lifetime Of Style closet and 500+ items sold. I am also a posh ambassador and one of the top-rated sellers on the app.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say that it has been completely smooth. It has definitely taken a lot of dedication. I would spend up to 16 hours at work, then come home to pack orders for my customers. When I’m not working, I use that time to shop for more inventory and ship out posh packages. It can get a bit competitive at the thrift stores and goodwill outlets, but I do not let that discourage me.
