Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Mazon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Kylie Mazon and I am the writer/cook /photographer behind Cooking with Cocktail Rings. I am a West Coast transplant who grew up on the East Coast and enjoy traveling everywhere I possibly can. I love to take inspiration for what I cook from my experiences.
My world has, and always will revolve around food. As soon as I finish one meal, I am planning for the next. I am in no way a classically trained chef. It may seem strange that someone who isn’t actually a chef is writing a blog, giving advice on what to cook and how to cook it. I learned to cook because my mom hated too! She is, however, a wonderful baker and I have included some of her recipes in my “desserts section”, but when it came to thinking about what to make for dinner she turned to me. My dad and I often cooked together; he would man the grill, and I would do the rest. I went from being the pickiest eater as a kid to eating just about everything.
I started out working in fashion PR in New York City and moved back to Los Angeles after I realized that wasn’t for me. I was in the post-college limbo of trying to figure out what really made me happy and what I wanted to do. I was lucky to have the support of my family as I figured it all out but what came out of it was Cooking with Cocktail Rings. I realized that my passion for food could actually become my full-time job and not just a hobby.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with anything, there are absolutely ups and downs. Starting your own company isn’t easy, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It takes persistence and you don’t see successes overnight (as much as I still want to). I didn’t have much to work off of when I started Cooking with Cocktail Rings so everything was trial and error – seeing what types of partnerships work and what kinds don’t, seeing what types of schedules work for me, and what direction I wanted to take my brand. To be honest, it’s all still as constant work in progress, I will never feel like it’s ever really done.

I am a food blogger and food photographer who specializes in creating recipes that can be recreated in your own kitchen. I write a variety of recipes, some on the easier side for a quick weeknight dinner for family and some of the nicer end which takes a little longer to make, ideal for a date night created together.
My favorite part about my job is that I have a hand in everything. I come up with the recipe ideas from my experiences then write the recipes, test them, cook them, style them and photograph them for my website. I then post them on my blog and social media accounts to share with people to recreate them at home.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is perfect for food bloggers. For starters, there are so many amazing restaurants in this city from so many different types of cuisines. I am constantly inspired and I also have access to some great ingredients.
From farmer’s markets around the city (I frequent the Santa Monica Farmers Market weekly) to grocery stores specializing in different cuisines I have access to so many fresh ingredients that may otherwise be more difficult to get.
