Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Kelley.
Kyle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m not really sure how to define where I’m at today, but I got here by constantly adventuring. I started out traveling a few times a year with my grandma who has always been my best friend and biggest inspiration, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve taken some big trips on my own. I’ve always had “itchy feet” as Kerouac put it, and a need for challenge.
I’ve ridden a bicycle from New York to San Francisco because I wanted to see if I could, and that has been my driving force since. I moved to LA on my own, I started my company because the gym I was training people at wasn’t in line with my moral code, and I act and do stand-up comedy because the child in me wants to come out and play. I train people because I believe that my love can help nurture them to their best selves and because picking shit up and putting it down again is fun most of the time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not smooth or straight forward. I’ve battled multiple addictions from opiates to amphetamines, and I feel like I’m constantly on a spirit trip, but every step of the way has been unique, monumental, nurturing, joyous, and scary as can be.
Growing Young Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Growing Young is a fitness and self-development company. The name is a reference to a Tom Petty lyric, “some grow young, some grow cold.” My mission is to guide people to their best self while loving the journey. I specialize in functional fitness with an intense twist added, so I call it “Warrior Building.” I also specialize in physical philosophy. I believe that my exuberance sets me apart.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is being happy for no reason. I think waking up happy just because it is the greatest joy I’ve ever known.
