Meet Kristy Miclette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Miclette.

Kristy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2008, I lost a friend, a person that loved me despite all of my flaws, she was selfless and giving. I lost my Mom to cancer. It was a long, trying battle of four years in an out of the hospital. My only care in the world was being with her as much as I possibly could. She was an inspiration, positive light, fighter, and a believer. Her family was her greatest joy. She would never see me get married and never got to meet her grandchildren. After her passing, I began evaluating my own life and its authenticity. Even in the madness, there is peace.

I decided to quit my job in Medical Sales in 2009. It gave me no purpose, I felt unfulfilled. We were also expecting our first daughter. My husband works for the LAFD and I needed more flexibility in my schedule. I got my first basic Canon camera before the birth of my daughter, Rylan. My goal was to learn that camera inside and out, capturing all the moments that held such special meaning. Two daughters later, I hadn’t even looked at mastering camera settings. Who had time for that?

Fast forward a few years later, I finally began taking photography classes, snapping pictures daily, and working with/meeting fellow photographers.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, I’d take pictures of anyone/anything. It took time to find my balance with my family. I have immense gratitude that I could be home with my daughters and share in all of their milestones. It took time to find my niche, my editing style, and my place. In 2016, Kristy Miclette Photography came to fruition.

Kristy Miclette Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
With a love for film, my artistic vision is light, bright and airy. I look to capture crisp, non-distracting, authentic moments. I specialize in Lifestyle, Wedding and Branding photography. My favorite is capturing the in-between moments. To capture a family’s laughter and document connection, and love at a wedding is purely beautiful. Live in the moment, celebrating every day. Each day we are here is a gift.

I see people for who they are. I listen. I aim to keep them at ease and make a shoot fun and playful. I like my pictures to convey lightness and happiness.

My daughters both share a love for photography also. I love how it brings us together. They play a part in helping me scout out new locations, they come on shoots with me, they inspire me and help spark new ideas.

This year, I started doing a lot more branding shoots. I absolutely love it. Supporting small businesses, helping them convey their vision, reason, and purpose. It’s awesome to brainstorm and watch it all unfold.

Art is subjective. I appreciate and love to support other photographers as well. They tell a story and each has its own beauty.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is finding your happiness, doing what you love, learning something new each day and celebrating every small victory.
