Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Goodman.
Kristy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been an Ob/Gyn PA for years and have worked in a variety of settings. One of the consistent things I noticed in my practice was that women were presenting early in pregnancy with pregnancy complications, many of which were preventable. After speaking with hundreds of women like this, I realized that the majority of these women were not getting the screening tests recommended for them before pregnancy. When performed in the preconception period, these tests can identify health problems that can be corrected before pregnancy occurs, ultimately resulting in improved pregnancy outcomes for the mother and baby.
After realizing that there was no easy way for women to access these tests, I decided to start PreConception, the first and only consumer-driven testing service where women could order their own preconception tests and have them done the same day.
Has it been a smooth road?
As a first time entrepreneur, every step of the way has been a learning experience. We’ve been fortunate to have met some amazing people along the way who helped us get started and from there, we’ve just taken it one step at a time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the PreConception story. Tell us more about the business.
We’re a consumer-initiated testing platform, which means that customers can order their own lab tests and have them done the same day, without the need for a doctor’s visit. We focus on preconception testing (i.e., testing before pregnancy) to identify health problems before women become pregnant and offer the tests recommended for all women planning a pregnancy. We’re proud to be the only company to currently offer this service on a nationwide scale.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Telemedicine and direct-to-consumer testing has significantly increased in popularity since the start of COVID. People are looking for ways to obtain care without having to go into a doctor’s office and we’re one of several companies who can offer this service. Over the next 5-10 years, I believe we’ll see continued utilization of online medical services and testing, ultimately putting healthcare back in the hands of the general population.
