Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Vergara.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I found my purpose and passion how many people do, by stumbling around trying everything that doesn’t work first. I had built a life that from the outside would have looked ideal, I checked all the boxes of what society tells us we ‘should’ have. But there was something missing.
In 2010 after what can now only be described as a spiritual awakening (a term I’m finding more and more people are identifying with) my life completely shifted. All my old priorities and goals changed almost overnight. It was an exciting time but soon that excitement turned to feeling really lost and unsure. I didn’t know how to navigate life without following the prescribed plan laid out for me. You know the plan, “get good grades, go to college, get a degree, find a job, get married to someone stable, and then go out for drinks at happy hour, maybe have kids, the end.” Now I’m not knocking the blueprint, I tried it, it just didn’t work for me. And I find there’s a lot of people it doesn’t work for, they usually become my clients.
In 2011, I did a year-long coaching and nutrition program with the largest nutrition school in the world Institute For Integrative Nutrition. I loved helping people and I saw how eating a clean healthy diet had helped me so I figured this was the best choice. I’m forever grateful for the experience I got through the school’s very diverse training program. It was there that I fell in love with coaching and was introduced to some amazing modalities outside of just nutrition.
I did enjoy the one-on-one interaction with my clients and seeing their lives improve right before my eyes were exhilarating, but I soon learned that I wanted to help people on a much deeper level than food and health. What I learned from that time was I could give a client the best information on food and nutrition and they would struggle to make simple habit changes. And my clients were always well-educated people who had a desire to change. This led me to one of the most important questions I ever asked myself “If people who had a sincere desire to change struggle to make habit changes with all the information they need in front of them, then what makes lasting change in people’s lives?” We all know the cliches of new years resolutions and the-diet-starts-Monday sort of attitudes. But I could see it in my life as well as in my clients, and not just in the areas of diet and health, we all seemed to be compelled by the habits that were ingrained in us.
This powerful question led me to the latest research in habit change and the subconscious mind. I was hooked and knew I found something profound. I studied modalities like Tapping (also referred to as EFT), hypnosis, and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming). At the same time, my inner life started to blossom. I had always been deeply sensitive and intuitive and these gifts began to magnify. In 2015 I transitioned from Health Coaching to working with people to transform the subconscious patterns that kept them stuck.
Since 2015 my work has continued to evolve. I felt that I could go even deeper with my clients and started to ask “If our subconscious mind can be programmed to make our choices and habits (whether to our benefit or detriment) then if we find the root cause of the limiting decisions and beliefs we can make even more effective change.” With my depth of knowledge of the way the subconscious mind works and my abilities as a spiritual intuitive, I have a knack for getting to the bottom of my client’s most difficult and long-held beliefs and patterns that have been keeping them stuck for years. I call it Spiritual Life Coaching because it’s soulful work that impacts much more than the surface level of your life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha! This journey has been one of the hardest and yet most rewarding of my life. I always joke when I talk about what I do that no one gets into the kind of work I do by accident, it’s often because of pain and struggle in our own lives that we then decide to help other people avoid the pitfalls we faced along the way.
My own journey of spiritual growth and self-discovery started after a decade long battle with an eating disorder which I now know was just a symptom of a deeper pain and unrest in my life. After successfully fighting those demons that’s what led me to want to be a Health Coach in the first place. But it soon became apparent that my work was going to be much deeper than food and health.
I also think one of the hardest parts of the journey was trusting the bread crumbs along the way. There wasn’t a box in my high school career aptitude test. I had to follow my intuition with blind faith it was leading me in the right direction. But I’m so glad I did.
I always say that if you want to learn and grow through hard lessons about yourself, get into a relationship, second only to that is become an entrepreneur and work for yourself.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work with people who are pretty self-aware and maybe have already done a lot of inner work. Sometimes they come to me after they feel they had a spiritual awakening of their own, and don’t know what to do with all the know awarenesses they’re experiencing. They usually come to me at the time that they realize they can’t just think their problem away, that awareness (though necessary for growth) isn’t enough to change the pattern. I help people become unstuck.
I’m really proud of the results I see with people. It’s amazing to watch my clients blossom and grow. Many clients stay in touch and I see them create the relationship of their dreams after having unhealthy relationship patterns for years or they change careers and start doing the work they are most passionate about after feeling completely stuck and blocked int this area previously.
I’m most passionate about seeing people find their purpose and calling in life. Once you clear the patterns that keep you stuck and limited your purpose and direction becomes so much more clear and accessible.
What sets me apart is that I get to the root of suffering and I can meet my client on a deep soulful level. Sometimes they’ve never fully been seen, heard, and understood to this degree before. I help them access and love parts of themselves; they may have suppressed or disowned.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure I believe in luck. I do believe in paying attention to opportunities, synchronicities, and gut intuition. When I try to do something out of fear, forcing it to happen or let a limiting belief I have rule my decisions it’s usually gone pretty bad. Trusting my gut instincts is way scarier at times because of the unknown but the results are always far more rewarding. That’s when luck, as you called, seems to be on my side. When I do something or create something for my business from joy, excitement, and inspiration it always feels right. But to be fair in the beginning, I struggled to follow the inspiration and intuition. I was still caught up in doing things the way you’re ‘suppose’ to do them. Now, thank goodness, it is a different story and I find that opportunities come knocking in the most magical and unexpected ways.
