Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Burris.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Art has always been a passion of mine. Growing up in LA, it’s impossible to walk the streets without experiencing the beauty that comes from an inspired artist. I was raised watching my father express himself as an artist through music and other family members express themselves as visual artists and musicians. Even now seeing my mother paint, even though it’s not often, inspires me. I think the person who influenced me the most would be my cousin, Kevin, who would always create these wildly realistic portraits of legends. Seeing the amount of detail that went into one painting, along with the skill level and patience it took to create these pieces, was what made me realize that art could be more than just a hobby.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe nothing worth having comes without struggle or adversity. I’ve dealt with things as simple as difficulty finding decent art supplies during a worldwide quarantine to struggling to find the motivation to paint while facing depression and anxiety. But going through those things helped me prove to myself just how much I love/need art. The only thing that can come from struggle is strength and progression if you keep pushing.
Please tell us more about your art.
I’m an artist. The ultimate goal is to be known for doing what I love, putting things out that I want to see in the world but also producing things that are thought-provoking or even controversial. The thing I’m most proud of is just being able. Not everyone has the luxury of doing what they love, so I’m proud as well as grateful that I can.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is defined by progression. You’re successful as long as you’re working towards your goals. The only way you can be truly unsuccessful is if you didn’t try to being with, the rest are just lessons learned.
