Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Jacobs.
Krista, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My fitness journey started after I had kids. I was a soccer player when I was young, always active. I had my kids and needed to get back to me. I was 215lbs and embarrassed to run with my kids. New to the fitness world and no idea where to start. Ventured through different types of fitness trying to find where I fit in. Zumba, CrossFit, but nothing was the spark I needed. One day I decided to become and instructor and lead other moms toward their goals. I started to teach Strong Nation, which is a music-based HIIT training class. It was the spark I needed. It struck the heart and boom Krista was back! After that, it became a game for me to see what I was capable of and where I could take my body. One goal after the other, I was hooked. The more I learned the more I tested myself.
Soon I realized had I known what I knew then my journey would have looked different from the beginning. But my journey was alone and long. I want to be the person for others to know that they can do the same as me, but better. Mommies can achieve their goals. They don’t have to fight alone. That what they need is already there within them, they just need to know how to do it. I currently work for Zumba in their fitness format Strong Nation as a Master Trainer, having my own business as KristaLynaeFit LLC, but I am also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist working towards my Nutrition Coaching.
We started Upgrade Fitness Training at the beginning of this year to progress into what we want to provide in the fitness world. To help others feel better, move better and perform better. Realizing they control what goes into their body, they will feel better from the inside out. From there, once they feel better, we guide them into how they can move better, become stronger and then they perform better in whatever it is they do, being better at their job, the best mom they can be for their kids, anything. I will always continue to grow, adapt and evolve. Even COVID, we keep pushing and keep people moving and happy with virtual classes and training and six weeks challenges to transform their mindsets and bodies. Keep hearts happy and homes better than what sitting in place has done to us emotionally and mentally.
Has it been a smooth road?
NO! The road has not been smooth. I didn’t have a mentor or guide, It was a learn as you go situation, but I don’t think I would have it any other way. The struggle of how to start, what to do, how do I get there? Knowing that my food needed to come first, instead of doing it backward. That if I didn’t love myself first, that I would struggle even at the size, I wanted. That training differently would help me to be all-around stronger and save me from injuries. That my bad habits caused some of those injuries. The list goes on.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am known personally for my job with Zumba for Strong Nation. I am a Master Trainer. I train people interested in teaching the format here in California and in Texas. I am also a Strong Tech, for that I travel as well to California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Albuquerque, to do workshops for current instructors training them to be their best at what they do. I am a personal trainer and group X instructor here in California, but my following is scattered because of my job. Teaching classes was where I started, now I train personal virtual session for goals or for help with injuries or posture with my Corrective Exercise and hosting challenges to help others transform their mind and Bodies, which just started as we saw how hard COVID is on our community.
What sets me apart is that I am me. I am passionate about what I do and I’ve lived it. I will always relate to those I work with because we know what it’s like. I genuinely care about those in my life and have my nickname of mama bear for that reason. If I can be a light for everyone who steps into my world, I will do all I can to light what’s inside of them to be able to share that kindness with others. I continue to grow and educate myself to find the best way to continue to give to others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
There are many opportunities here in LA, it is overcrowded however. Finding the job that they are passionate about is key and to master their talent. Find what makes them THEM and really diving into that will set them apart from others. The opportunities are there, but you have to work for it. I think LA is a great place to start. We have opportunities that MANY other places do not.
