Meet Kris Perelmutter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Perelmutter.

Kris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took a pretty winding path to get to where I am now. I grew up in Virginia and went to Virginia Tech where I majored in fashion marketing. From there, I moved to New York City where I began a career in Fashion PR- not realizing how miserable that career choice would make me.

I started a blog as a creative outlet (back in the day when blogs were just getting started, and people were actually reading them) and began doing food photography, cooking videos, and writing.

I gained enough on-camera experience to begin making television appearances, which eventually led to consistent spots on The Today Show, Inside Edition, Dr. Oz, and other national news shows. My segments were in the lifestyle arena- entertaining, wellness, cooking- and although I loved working on television and sharing my passions with others, I began to feel a pull towards the West Coast. Nine years of NYC winters will do that to you.

I moved to LA three years ago and decided it was time to pull the trigger on a project I had always wanted to do- to write a self-help book. Breakup Positive was released last Valentine’s Day. I am currently working on a few writing projects, public speaking, and about to launch an online marketplace website (geared towards the wellness industry) with a friend. I’m constantly on the lookout for new projects!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me it hasn’t been- but I don’t think anyone ever has a smooth road to get to where they are now. I do believe that the struggles and bumps along the way are things that shape us. You can either use the bad things in life to define who you are- or you can use them to change yourself, to challenge yourself. I’d rather be a person that has struggled a bit than someone who has never faced any obstacles.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m currently a writer and public speaker- focusing mainly in the self-help and breakup genres. What sets me apart is that I’m very positive, even through the bad in life. I aim to show people that breakups can be positive events in your life- forcing you to change for the better and not dwell on the negatives.

Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business?  If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
My husband has been my biggest supporter and role model. He owns a chain of fitness centers across the US (called Brick), does a lot of business consulting in the fitness/wellness space, as well as public speaking and charity work.

His largest location is in West Hollywood and every member there is like family to us. He is my biggest cheerleader and motivator.
