Meet Kris Greer of Product of the People Music in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Greer.

Kris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised here in Southern California. Growing up in the suburbs, I was exposed to different genres that helped mold the type of artist I am now. From country to hip-hop, classical to rock, I gained a respect for all forms of music. Ive always used music as an opportunity to create something that could possibly change someone else in a positive way. With influences like Gavin DeGraw, Justin Timberlake, and Donell Jones, to 2Pac, Jay-z, Slick Rick, Machine Gun Kelly and many more, it’s helped me create a way of storytelling that makes you feel like you’ve been a part of whatever emotion I’m singing or spittin’ about. Now running his own label, PRODUCT of the PEOPLE MUSIC, I’ve gathered some of the dopest new artists to create a movement that encourages everyone, especially the youth, to follow their dreams.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been the easiest path. In 2014, I quit my “cushy” 9-5 job to pursue music full time. I sold everything I had and lived out of my care for almost two years. But in those two years, my music and the label progressed so much. I would drive to Hollywood, random colleges in different cities, malls, you name it; and pass out my mixtapes. The hardest thing was, people wouldn’t take them. They were afraid I would ask for money, but each time I would stop them and tell them that it was totally free. I just asked for it to be passed along. I was able to create a fan base from San Francisco down to San Diego and in between. That would have never been possible in I had not taken a chance on myself.

Please tell us about Product of the People Music.
PRODUCT of the PEOPLE Music is an independent record label that was established in 2012. We specialize in Artist Development, Artist Management, and Distribution; while creating a family-oriented support system that each person on the team can rely on. Since starting, we’ve focused on creating a community of not just artists but music lovers of all sorts and help artists all over get their music heard to different audiences. We’ve created a space for Artists to record with TinyHouse Studio, we manufacture merchandise with The Shop Customsxx and have a HUGE network of independent producers, videographers, photographers, and dancers looking to connect with others to create. We are known for having positive energy and uplifting independent artists from all over. What sets us apart from others is the fact that we are not a money-based label. We get 0% profit from our artists. Our Artists get 100% of the revenue they generate as well has have full creative control and own their Masters from the start. That is what we are most proud about. We are a label created by artists specifically for artists, not the industry.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I HAD to start over right now, I would cut out lessons I’ve learned and apply them from the start. If I could go back in time to do this over, I would focus on one of 2 things, either build the company or build my career as an Artists; then go back and conquer the other. It’s been a rough road trying to do both from the ground up. But ultimately I’ve been blessed on this path and I’ve been blessed to be able to create a brand that represents more than just myself.
