Meet Koreatown VFX artist, UI, and UX designer: Han Yu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Han Yu.

Han, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I came to the US in 2007 as a college student and graduated in 2011 winter. I started my first job as a look development intern at Disney Animation Studios. However, I had to return back to Korea due to visa problems which were devastating for me. However, I resolved this problem and returned to the US and got a position back in Disney as an actual artist. Even as a student, I was extremely interested in the start-up the industry and always wanted to start my company. However, as a student, the reality was not in the favor of me and also I wanted to build my knowledge and experience in my major. Regardless of numerous ideas, I had for the start up, I had to put that on the side and wait for the right timing to bloom my dreams. After my visa problem was resolved to work in Disney, I finally pursued after my goals as a start-up company. Throughout the years, I tried many of my ideas to become a reality. However, many of them failed to reach the final outcome. The failure did not stop me from trying new ideas. The current VR and AR company is the newest adventure of my dream. I am enthusiastic about this company and what it may bring to my life and so many others.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. I have faced many struggles throughout this adventure. The most difficult aspect of pursuing this goal of mine was a visa issue. As a foreigner, the legal residential problem was the biggest problem. Fortunately, I just received a Greencard which I have been waiting for a very long period of time. Starting my own business took a toll on my finances as well. I had to sacrifice and give in on many items that were precious to me. I sold my car, quit my job, and move to fit the budget, to focus and to all- into my company.

Who, or what, deserves a lot of credit for where you are today?
Jae Hyun Yoo – He is one of the most talented persons I’ve ever known. He was my co-worker and housemate. He was a motion graphic artist, VFX artist, and now a programmer. I met him 2012 at Disney. After he moved into my house, we often shared the idea we’ve had, and we started our first startup researching Augmented Reality. That was my turning point in my life, and he has played the role.

Do you have a favorite type of client or project?
Our team is focusing on real-time contents. We are not only developing on real-time animation pipeline but also working on full interactive VR contents.
