Meet Kora-lee Bruno of Kore Meal Prep in HQ in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kora-lee Bruno.

Kora-lee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Moving to LA 9 years ago, I had a whole other dream I was following. I’ve truly led with my curiosity over the years and it’s what led me to where I am now. When it came to big career moves, I always went with what my heart was pulling towards and it was always the riskier option. I just knew the reward would be great and if not then it would be one hell of a story for the grandkids. With that said, it has always worked out.

Let’s take it back to a year and a half ago when I got a brush with luck. I was doing as our generation does and instagramming food and my cooking. My good friend, Corey Calliet (Michael B Jordan’s trainer) asked me if I would make Michael B some healthy dishes to help him get in shape for Creed 2. Well, that led to moving to Philadelphia to continue working with him while we filmed. I prepared all of his healthy meals, portioned them out and made sure he was staying on track with his nutrition. Again, a brush with luck. This is not your average start to any business however, it was then that I decided to not just sell lemonade but to create the whole lemonade stand. I created a meal prep company called Kore meal prep and launched it in September of 2018.

For months on end, it was a one-woman operation. I started it with no capital so funds were limited and I couldn’t afford to hire any help just yet. Well now that its a whole year later, my company has been a part of some pretty cool projects. It’s been featured in men’s health with our client Colton Underwood (from ABC’s the bachelor) as well as an upcoming publication we can’t talk about just yet. We’ve worked on Khloe Kardashians revenge body and helped our client drop the most weight on the show ever. This past summer was crazy for us as we worked with numerous NBA athletes in their offseason. We continue to work with elite clients to get them ready for projects, movies, tours, etc. It’s still a small team but our client roster is far from small.

I’ve been very fortunate to have some great names and projects attached to our business considering our size. I hope to continue growing my business and if that is just the start of it, then I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been the easiest road. Opening a business is scary enough but opening a business with little to no capital is a struggle. I considered it like a game of chess. It was easy to flip the dollar with the few clients I had at the beginning. After saving, I was able to afford certain things like a logo, better containers, equipment, etc. As time went on, it was a process of this until I felt like I had a safety net. My prep days included taking orders, shopping, cooking 100-200 meals, cleaning and then delivering them all over LA. I’d have 15+ hour days and then come home to wear all the other hats. HR, handling social media, inventory, etc. I did it all by my self for months.. Luckily this year, I was able to hire and create a better operation to propel us forward. Doing it all alone was the toughest challenge. I respect any business owner who still get their hands dirty. I would say the other biggest challenge was jumping into a field I knew nothing about. Google and faith were my best friends. Still to this day, I’m a student and will continue to learn more about business and its operations. It’s always fearful to take leaps with your business but I had to trust my gut with a lot of decisions. As we grow, there will be plenty more to face as we level up but it’s all apart of the process.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kore Meal Prep – what should we know?
We are a healthy meal prep company in Los Angeles. We create a healthy menu that includes many different options for carbs, proteins and veggies. Our clients get to customize their meals off our menu and get them delivered straight to their house! We provide convenience for the on-the-goers. We know its so tough to eat healthy when you are constantly traveling or never home. Thats where we step in. Our clients travel with our meals, eat them on set or buy them for their family (the kids love them too). I wanted to create a menu that would intrigue the fitness enthusiasts as well as the foodies. Healthy food doesn’t need to be boring and taste-less.

I’m happy that we have high-retention clients. It’s such a compliment to see the same people ordering every week!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My self motto is work hard and be a good person. Its ultimately whats led me to be in the rooms Ive been in and work with the people that I do. There is no longevity in being anything else but authentic.

Pricing:

  • Our single meals are currently $12/meal
  • We offer a weekly subscription that includes 10 meals for $110 that come to you fresh every week
