Meet Kitty Peterson of Kitty Thee Madam in Boyle Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitty Peterson.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a L.A. Gang member in the 90’s and lost nearly all my childhood friends to gang violence. I Reflected on my past for years and often thought about what if my lost peers had the opportunity to follow their dreams what would that look like?…and in 2009 decided to create a lifestyle gang that really stood for everything good that I had learned from my gang.

That was structure, loyalty, sister/brotherhood, fearlessness, hustle, teamwork, leadership and so much more. I decided to change the narrative around what the world thinks of gang culture. Removing any and all negativity from the equation and making it about love, worldwide sister/brotherhood is how I Choose to represent Those I’ve lost and tell the world our story through my eyes. Someone who really lived the life. The response to MNJGANG has been overwhelming love. From people who are apart of the culture and people who just respect the culture. Everything fly starts in the hood and all our pieces represent that hood fly ness sprinkled with luxury. That’s MNJGANG fly, hood, luxury, “Everyone has a little gangsta in them and has humans we all desire to be a part of a family who will live and die for eachother, I made a conscious decision to turn what some might have thought was a negative past into a positive future.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running MNJGANG now days is pretty smooth because we have a strong team, We are a family here and we all have a collective goal “To create a historic brand that changes the to the world” It took along time to get here. In the beginning, no one wanted to help us grow. Other business owners I knew wouldn’t give me any info about starting, running or growing a business from the ground up. It’s safe to say nobody believed in us a lot of people didn’t get or understand what I was doing. Creating a gang isn’t something you see everyday. So some people said we would never make it. But one of my superpowers is optimism I knew what we would be always! All the nonbelievers made me want to succeed even more. And I had to learn everything about business from scratch, this was when I also learned that almost everything I learned from the streets would be my greatest asset in business. I am so grateful for those early struggles they truly made me the business beast I am today.

Please tell us about Kitty Thee Madam.
Madam Norma Jean Gang is a luxury Unisex lifestyle Gang. We celebrate the culture by creating products that highlight what we represent. Sister/brotherhood, love, hood luxury, self-love, our flyness ext. We sell high fashion pieces to streetwear pieces, Beauty products that compliment all the many skin tones we come in and we are currently working on a sneaker line. The biggest thing that sets us apart is that we aren’t a brand we are a gang! And the mnjgang customer is apart of that gang. We celebrate all races. We have the mnjgang kittens that represent us from all over the world there are six girls from six different parts of the world repping us and we represent them and their culture, they are sorta like the bunnies to playboy or the angles to Victoria secret. These Kittens are what really sets us apart cause we don’t use models in our ads we have our Kittens and every 18 months we choose six more Kittens to celebrate from somewhere totally new. We are proud of who we are and where we come from, we are a California gang that has members from all over the globe that inspire us to create real street/luxury. We are the Tupac and Elizabeth’s Taylor that everyone should have inside of them.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Some would say surviving gang life in L.A. in the 90’s is good luck. But I personally don’t call it luck I believe your life has a divine purpose and the choices you make brings you closer or further away from that purpose.
