Meet Kimmara Acosta of Castle Tile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmara Acosta.

Kimmara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working in the tile industry in 1992 with no experience. My husband was a tile installer. I decided that it would be a good idea to find a job in a tile showroom where I could learn about tile and also get my husband work installing tile. This is where I began to fall in love with tile. I enjoyed designing with the many beautiful colors, shapes and textures of ceramic tile. Every day was exciting for me, getting to bring unique tile designs to every customer that came to the showroom and seeing how excited they were with the tile selections.

Very early on, my passion for tile started to grow and has just increased as the years have gone by and remains strong today.

I took a long period of time away from working (10 years) to have children, a son who is now 21. In 2008 the rumblings of crisis in the economy alarmed me to the fact that I needed go back to work. Long story short, I came across a company called Castle Tile located in Costa Mesa, CA. I interviewed for the job and landed it that very same day. I was excited to get back to work doing what I loved best… Selling tile. The owner of Castle Tile had a very unique program (that’s what he called it), for how to run a showroom and sell tile. He had a program for everything. I respected his way because it worked. Here’s why. The customer is the reason why we are here, everything revolves around the customer and the customers satisfaction. If you can get the customer to “fall in love with you”, by giving them a warm sincere feeling of importance and give them knowledgeable service and added design skills with a personal touch, it becomes a successful situation for both the customer and yourself.

In 2012 the owner of Castle Tile retired and offered me the opportunity to become the store manager. My love for tile motivated me to increase the tile selections the store needed to attract designers and contractors and homeowners looking for the latest material products in tiles. Each year, there are many different developments in the industry, from colors and designs to textures and finishes. I knew we had to have the latest trends in tile to stay competitive within the marketplace.

In June of this year my husband and I purchased Castle Tile. We are excited for the future. We plan to continue bringing in a steady stream of the latest tiles available in the marketplace. My ultimate goal is to the new customers and the returning customers is the WOW factor when they walk into the showroom. I want them coming in and leaving with the thought that they just experienced the best that tile has to offer! There is no end to what is now available in tile materials. I plan to continue as long as I can and hand down this wonderful, exciting business to my son. We love Tile!

The passion of the love of tile has driven me to the successes I have come know and enjoy today. I love tile therefore I sell tell. It’s really kind of easy.

Tile has evolved so much over the past decade, there is no limit to what can be done with tile.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, the road was pretty smooth until Sept 2016. The owner decided to bring his 22-year-old son in to run the business. It was totally unexpected. I could not support the decision and left Castle Tile and went to work for another tile company. It was very emotional for me after working 10 years and given the idea that I would become the owner. I went to work for a competitor, I must say I actually learned from the experience.

Now, looking back, I actually gained from the situation. Six months later, I got a call that the owner was ready to sell. It was a win/win situation for both of us.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Castle Tile – what should we know?
We are a tile and stone showroom. We are a one stop shop for tile, stone and counter top materials. We sell nearly 100 different tile vendors and multi manufactures of tile and stone and counter top materials. We are a distributor of exclusive tiles and offer a large selection of tile from Italy, Spain, USA and China.

Our showroom is well organized, we try to make it user friendly. We offer our customers free samples of tile to take home to consider. We offer friendly, down to earth service to every customer that comes to us, no matter how small or big. The customer is the reason we are in business.
