Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Cuna.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As I’ve always loved fitness and health, I never would have thought this would be my career. Straight from college I headed into the fashion industry, and eventually started my own accessories line. My business was doing great and at it’s most successful time, it also ended up being the most stressful time. At this point, I was a new mom and handling business ..literally. I was trying to balance product development and wholesale orders in between naptime and playtime. I was stressed out! I turned to Pilates to destress. That one hour in a studio was where I didn’t have to think about anything but to focus solely on myself. It was amazing, life-changing to be exact!
Six months later, I started training in fitness Pilates and continued my education straight into Classical Pilates. As I taught Pilates part-time and continued growing my business, I noticed my passion started drifting more towards movement and wellness. In 2016, I decided to stop moving forward with my accessories line and focus on growing my business in Pilates and have not looked back since!
Today, I can’t imagine doing anything else! I love working with my clients and the relationships I’ve built. Most importantly, I found something in my life that is gratifying and helpful to others at the same time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My transition to becoming a Pilates teacher was not easy. One of my biggest challenges was to put myself “out there” and teach a room full for Pilates goers (who all have all been going to Pilates far longer than I’ve been interested in Pilates. After all, I’ve never had any experience in teaching and this was out of my element. As I was able to overcome my “stage fright” and had eventually gained the confidence to lead a room, I have a new appreciation for educators and teachers.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kim Cuna Pilates – what should we know?
The body is an amazing system, and it’s interesting to see what your body exposes during movement. Today, I have a better appreciation for Pilates and how rehabilitative it can be for the body.
I work one on one with clients who are or were previously injured as well as teach group classes for clients who love the workout aspect of Pilates.
As a mom, I love focusing on women who have gone through post-baby changes and showing them how to access certain muscles that might have been forgotten during pregnancy or surgery.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There a couple of people who deserve a lot of credit for where I am today. As my husband has always supported me through my change of career. I definitely could not have been where I am today without him behind me.
As for teachers/mentors, I have a few women who have helped me along my way through my education. I am grateful for them in my life as they are amazing Pilates teachers and business owners, I try and keep myself surrounded by them and their fascinating teaching styles as they inspire me every single day.
