Meet Kiera Thomas of EverythingKTanae in Corona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiera Thomas.

Kiera, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Kiera Thomas but my pen name is K. Tanae. I am an author and STD/STI advocate. I started writing at a very young age, shoutout to my momma for making sure my sister and I loved reading. My love for reading is what planted the seed for my passion, writing. My ultimate writing goal is to write a story that’s relatable, entertaining and something people will always remember me by.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes on October 15, 2011. I remember the day like it was yesterday, the weather, the way I felt.. EVERYTHING. I was distraught, to say the least. I confided in a few people and two of them exposed me to social media..bringing me sooooo much shame and embarrassment. But then in January 2018, I took my power back!! I did a live interview with college daze media about living with herpes. I was so scared that people would have terrible things to say (some did) but the support I received was so much better!! I really got my Magik back! And now I openly tell my story as much as I can because I know someone is afraid of the stigma. I was that person. Now I want to continue educating myself and others so that we can be aware of what’s going on with our bodies. The stigma of STD/STI’s is so real and intimidating but I want to let people know you can still live a very normal life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I decided to use my platform to advocate for Herpes, it was scary. It was like I ripped the band-aid off and came “out” then the next day I was considered an advocate. I’ve had a few rude messages sent my way but after meditating and praying I now know that those people are ignorant and don’t want to know any better. Those tough times made me a lot stronger though. Now I feel like I wear a cape lol.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
EverythingKTanae is something I came up with last year when I decided to merge all my “businesses” into ONE.

Vaughe Rose Essentials is a HUGE part of EverythingKTanae. I started making homemade candles earlier this year and it been so fun. I am most proud of my candles because I really started from the bottom and I’m working my way UP!

I also sell my books on EverythingKTanae. I have paper packs of my most recent release and once I have fulfilled my contract, I will start back independently publishing my work. So lookout for the READSUMPHINFOOBOOKS hashtag on IG real soon!!!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had great friends along the way on my journey. My friends play a huge part in my everyday battles with Herpes. My Bff, Deonna Willis, was there from the day I got diagnosed and she has never treated me different. My best friend, Marie Holifield is always my biggest cheerleader and one of the first at my side when needed. My family, THE KAYS, they all make life a little bit sweeter. One person that played a huge part in me OVERSTANDING my worth and shooting for the stars is M. Pigrim. I would say that he’s been a bit of a mentor as well. Thank you guys soooooooooooooooo much !!!!!!!
