Meet Kiara Ramirez of Kiara Ramirez Films in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Ramirez.

Kiara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was originally born in Mexico City, when I was younger my family decided they wanted to move to an extremely small town called Mendocino, in the middle of the redwood forests on the Californian coast. I’ve had a passion for filmmaking since I can first remember, making short films and music videos with my friends and family growing up all over the coast and redwoods. Living in such an isolated area gave me a lot of time to study and focus and learn the art of film as much as I could with the recourses I had around me (a.k.a. the internet). I got so excited about the idea of my future career and doing what I love to do that I worked really hard and was able to graduate and get my diploma over 2 years early. After a while of working up north, I moved to LA and have been fulfilling my passion for film ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely wouldn’t call it a smooth road. In this industry, you have to work and pay your dues, but having the absolute most supportive parents and family in the world really has made it an amazing experience. But as a 17-year-old girl aspiring to be a cinematographer/director being thrown into the Hollywood production scene was really tough time. It was hard to get people to take me seriously with my age, but the fact, I’m a girl definitely made it a lot harder sometimes, mostly because of the fact that camera department is usually treated as a boys club. I felt like I had to work a lot harder in some situations to get the same opportunities as others who had my same skillset. And not to mention having to spend an entire year convincing everyone, teachers especially that graduating high school early, bailing on college and moving to Hollywood wasn’t a bad idea.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kiara Ramirez Films – what should we know?
The past couple years, I have been producing commercials for local business, music videos and short films as well as working on various other projects. Most recently, I have been working in the camera department on productions in Los Angeles, either as first or second assistant camera and as a cinematographer. The ultimate goal is to be able to work as a full-time cinematographer, as well as be able to direct my own films every once in a while.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that my drive, strong work ethic, patience and attention to detail has really helped me get to where I am today. I put all my time and effort into every project I’m working on and really put my heart and soul into every film I create and plan to always do so.
