Meet Kiana Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Perez.

Hi Kiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am 26 years old born and raised in Los Angeles. I have three years old son on the spectrum who is the love of my life. I am a stay-at-home mom who has an at-home full-time bakery business I started my business back in 2019 because I was battling depression being a stay-at-home mom. I needed something to distract my mind and I started making treats for fun. I started making rice krispie treats and chocolate-covered strawberries for my son’s first birthday. I then began to slowly make more treats for fun and decided to start an Instagram page for it. I started to receive an amazing amount of support from others. From there I never stopped making treats and only kept expanding my business adding more treats to my menu.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been some struggles and challenges during this journey. Being a stay-at-home mom and running a business is not as easy as everyone thinks. I wouldn’t trade it for the world though. Sometimes I would go weeks with no orders and have a lack of motivation to post content. You are always going to have bad days in this business, but the good days always outweigh the bad ones. I have the most amazing clients and the ones who are returning clients have a special place in my heart. Those clients motivate me because they come back to me for a reason and can see how hard I work. It’s always a pleasure to be a part of your client’s special events.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My at-home bakery business specializes in custom desserts for every special occasion from small gatherings to birthday celebrations, to quinceañeras, to weddings. I offer everything from chocolate-covered strawberries, cupcakes, rice krispies, small cakes and number or letter cakes. I use top-quality ingredients and all my desserts are freshly made. I feel like I am especially known for my number and letter cakes. It creates such a uniqueness to your party and always gets your guests excited for a cake. I believe that this is what sets me apart from others because very few bakers offer number and letter cakes. It creates such a WOW factor that you and your guests will love. I also love to build a relationship with my clients and want to make sure I am giving them the best service possible.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice to anyone starting out is to practice, practice, practice. Even on the worst days where you are questioning yourself, do not give up. Something I wish I knew when I was starting out was you have to lose money to make money. In the beginning, it is going to be hard. You have to work hard to build that clientele and put yourself out there. You have to love what you do and see what you can do to stand out from the rest. Do your research, find what works best for you and make it work. Just because you see someone else doing something, doesn’t mean it will work for you. Your audience wants to see uniqueness so don’t be afraid to try something that no one else has before!
