Meet Khloe Kares

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khloe Kares.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story all started when I was on my way to school, and I noticed a lady who was homeless. I asked my mom why or how she ended up out there, and it made me really upset, and from then on I knew I had to do something to help. At the time, my grandma was teaching me how to make shoulder bags and tote bags, and I knew I could make more of those bags and hand them out to women on the street.

So I decided to make more of these bags filled them with a ton of bare necessity items that we use on an everyday basis. We put out a call on social media to let people know that I needed donations and from there we started getting tons and tons of donations. Once I had enough bags made, then we started filling them and passing them out to ladies that we saw whenever we were out.

Since starting Khloe Kares, I have made and distributed over 3500 bags. I’ve been able to travel all around the world speaking about my project here in Los Angeles, and I even got to go to Ghana.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been that smooth of a road; things have been rough sometimes. It’s a lot of work, plus I’m 11!! So I have to juggle school, speaking engagements, traveling and making bags. Plus still enjoying life as a kid. But somehow everything works out. But it is a lot of work. Thankfully we have a team, and we all get things done.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Khloe Kares is a nonprofit organization where I made and distribute tote bags filled with over 25 bare necessity items to women experiencing homelessness, I inspire and motivate other kids to be change makers and install water pumps in Ghana.

I’m most proud of my water pumps in Ghana. So far I have two water pumps and a bathroom facility installed in schools that have no access to clean water. We all should have access to clean water which is important for life! Every year I plan on installing water pumps in school that don’t have them.

I think I am just like any other person that wants to help their community, I just acted on it. Sometimes people get too worked up on how to do things, and they just do it. It’s really that easy.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Well, I’m still a kid, but my best memories are with my family! Two years ago I was nominated by Disney to go on a Disney family cruise. And my whole family got to go. It was the best time ever.

My mom is the one that normally travels with me, and my dad stays home with my sister. So this time all of us got to spend time together. A moment In time ill never forget.
