Meet Kharel Autrey of The Flavor Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kharel Autrey.

Hi Kharel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From the early age of five, my father taught me how to cook at first it seemed like a chore, but once I started to create dishes I loved to eat like Chicken & Waffles or BBQ wings & Fries, so cooking which once was viewed as a chore turned into something I loved to do on a daily and within a few years I started to be the one who cooked the breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our house at the young age of seven. After honing my chef skills personally on my own for years and then within the Urban Kitchen Culinary School in 2014. I was working a government job then after three years, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own cooking business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a challenging but blessed road to success, when I first started to sell plates via Food Deliveries only in 2017, I would have frequent customer support Wednesday through Saturday each week until a minor setback of an accident that totaled my delivery vehicle that sidelined my heavy customer support I was receiving to pick up orders only which at the time what many customers didn’t prefer, they liked the idea that I would deliver and most my customers lived 15 to 20 miles away from my pick up location.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Flavor Kitchen. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The business was started in 2017, we provide daily and nightly meals Monday through Sunday for pick up orders from 12pm to 8pm and we also provide delivery orders from 9pm to 3am. We specialize in catered events and themed menu days like our most popular cooking day #SoulFoodSaturday that showcase our customer favorite Fried King Crab. What sets us apart from other restaurants and food trucks is our array of menu options, that you can also order from us ANY DAY OF THE WEEK through our “Open Menu Order Policy” and we also provide a delivery service for all orders past the traditional time of ANY restaurant that starts at 8pm on our busier cooking days and ends between 3am and 4am, for the graveyard workers, and the late night foodies who crave something more than the usual drive-thru options.

I am most proud of my ability to adapt and go forward even in a time of this pandemic and uncertainty for all people, I chose to reinvent myself and not limit branding to social media only, I made shirts, masks, flyers, and coupons that I distributed to customers and future customer along with samples of food that I would give out to people while canvassing areas in various cities in LA and I learned good old fashioned word of mouth with products given to the public resonated more than just posting on social media alone. I would like readers to know that “The Flavor Kitchen” brand is something they’ve never seen before, we offer #DateNight dinners, meal prep options, seafood boils, catered events, daily & nightly meals with pick up and delivery options NO POSTMATES OR DOORDASH REQUIRED WE HAVE AN IN HOUSE DELIVERY SERVICE, we can be booked for your next birthday, anniversary, or any special shared occasion you would need food for, our menu is different everyday and you can also order any themed specific menu day, ANYDAY OF THE WEEK NOT JUST ON THE DAY IT’S AVAILABLE.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My father deserves several pats on his back for instilling in me the love of cooking, hard work, dedication to your craft no matter what it is, and to use everyday as a vessel to be better than you were yesterday. He passed away before he could see all that I’ve been blessed to do and will continue to do, but every meal is cooked with love and dedication just like he would do so he’s here with me in spirit giving me that extra energy to keep creating great food and to never stop going forward.
