Meet Keyon Anderson of Always Progressing in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyon Anderson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born, raised, and educated in Long Beach, California. I have encountered and overcame many hardships while seeking a better future for my family and myself. Despite being the first in my immediate family to graduate from high school, I now hold two degrees in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

I have also earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Rossier in May of 2019. For the past decade, I have worked with students and families as they navigate the college admissions and financial aid process. Throughout my career, I have worked as a College Peer Advisor, Motivational Mentor/Coach/Speaker, External Reader for the University of California at Berkeley Admissions, and as a Director of a College Access Program in Southern California. In addition to my professional college access roles, I am also a published author and business owner. My education, professional, and entrepreneurship experiences have provided me with a special knack for helping students see their fullest potential and guiding them through the college admission process. These experiences have also aided me in understanding the importance of parent education and engagement in ensuring their children’s collegiate preparation and success.

A Philosophy that I truly live my life and operate by is: “Success favors those who prepare for success; if one isn’t preparing for success, then they will not be successful.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my biggest challenges was learning how to live and succeed with Dyslexia, a disorder that complicates my ability to process information. My Dyslexia made learning to read difficult, and it initially discouraged me from pursuing my dreams. I went into High School reading at a second-grade reading level and didn’t wholeheartedly envision myself graduating from High School. Through keeping my head held high and seeking out help, I was able to surpass my education expectations and have inspired many others to do the same.

My personal experiences fuel my passion is to help underserved students and the adversity that people experience, especially in Long Beach, to become resilient and have access to quality education and all subsequent endeavors. These experiences have led to me giving back to the community through my work in the nonprofit sector, research, community involvement, and mentorship services. In addition to my primary profession, I serve as Co-Director of the Kappa League for the Long Beach-Inglewood-South Bay Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where I support 50-75 young males through their educations journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Always Progressing Inc – what should we know?
