Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Ludwig.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kevin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Montebello, CA right outside of East Los Angeles. I’m a first-generation Mexican American that grew up around music that played an extremely important role in my life. Everything from Oldies to Mariaichi music had such a huge impact on me. Growing up with two older brothers, Jason and Chris, hip hop and R&B was what was always playing in our room, especially living in LA in the 90’s… They introduced me to the music that influences me today.
As I grew older, I decided to take a guitar class at Santa Monica college where I really got to study and understand music. This opened up numerous doors for me which lead me to some of the most important people and mentors in my life. Tui Asau (Lineage Entertainment) and J “Syph” Gonzalaez (Wrecking Spot Recording studios) we’re the first ones to really believe in me and help me understand that this can be more than a hobby, I can make this a full-time career. Under their wings, I began developing a passion for music production. Syph would lend me the keys to his studio and I would stay up through the night making beats, it became a regular routine. I wanted to further my production skills so I decided to attend the Los Angeles Recording School in Hollywood CA where I now am about to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Audio Production. Through my short career as a music producer, I’ve produced for artists like Pacman Da Gunman, Rayven Justice and Snap Dogg.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! I believe anytime you start a new career, you’re always gonna hit a few bumps in the road. I am super grateful for the people I’ve met and the position I’m in now, but working in the music industry, it’s very common when you come across a few bad apples. It’s part of the reason why I chose to go to school and better myself to avoid getting taken advantage of. Understanding the business side of things is just as important as the actual art itself. That’s one thing I had a hard time learning in the beginning of my career.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Currently, I’m working as a full-time Music Producer/ Audio Engineer in Hollywood, CA. I specialize in Music production, my ultimate goal when working with artists is making sure I capture their vision and push them to reach their full potential. Just recently finished an album “Esta Loca Vida Mia” by Pacman Da Gunman that is now out on all platforms! Extremely proud of this album, and I encourage everyone to go take a listen if you love West Coast Hip Hop!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Not quite sure, but I’m hopeful that the industry will keep progressing and find ways to make sure artists are surviving and making a decent living.
