Meet Kevin Johnson of Bigg Boo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Johnson.

Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for music but never took it serious till 2016. I had came back from college and was working a dead-end job and homeless sleeping in a 2000 Honda Civic with my younger brother. I decided to sacrifice and take my last two checks and open a recording studio, which ended up to be the best decision I ever made in my life.

It was hard at first maintaining the rent for my studio, till the point I had to sell all my collector edition Jordan shoes to stay up float, January 1st, 2016 is the day I signed the lease and it’s been greatnesses ever since! I had first linked up with 2 of LAs top artist FrostyDaSnowMann and AlmightySuspect before anyone knew who they were. We all slept on the floor of the studio and worked our asses off to the point our buzz was big enough to generate revenue from our talent. Frosty and Almighty put my name out there which linked me with other dope artist like Drakeo The Ruler, 03 Greedo, and I even had the chance to work with Blueface, Saviii3rd damn near every buzzing artist out of LA today I’ve worked with even producers I used to look up to. It’s been a struggle but it’s only up from now, I’m known as one of the top producers and engineers in my city and it’s great, and keep it mind I make beats and mix and master music a talent most people can’t do it’s always either or.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been more rainy days then sunny days! But the sunny days are starting to out weigh the rainy ones. Sleepless nights, hungry in the studio with no money it’s been rough, even to the point where I had to drop prices just so I can eat. Taking birdbaths in the restroom etc. it’s always tough at first trying to establish your sound, to the point where you want to quit, that’s when you turn on the Nipsey Hussle and get back to work!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My studio is called Track9 Recording, for production I’m known ass Bigg Boo The Beat Junkie and Mixed By Bigg Boo. I’m a one stop shop I do it all with quality work too and very fast, I call myself a “human drive thru” lol. I can make a beat for you, record the song, mix and master it radio quality all within a couple of hours that’s what set me apart from everyone else. I work fast with the best quality, I thank God for that gift.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always outside. I never watched television or been into games, I wanted to see life for what it is and not watch it past by. My teenage years were crazy being from Compton I got into the gang politics, shout out to all my Palmers that stage of my life turned me into a man fast. Second I grew up playing sports like football and baseball, but other than that I’ve always had an eye for music.
