Meet Kerry and Evan Marlowe of Sweet Home Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry and Evan Marlowe.

Kerry moved to the US from Great Britain in 2006 to pursue acting and producing. She soon realized that you needed to wear many hats in this business and formed Sweet Home Films in 2009. Kerry made various short films and developed some feature films through the company.

When she met Evan, her now husband she realized that their joint passion for filmmaking was just who she needed to co-own the company with her. After Evan wrote two best selling Amazon novels and together produced two horror features, they wanted to try a new form of horror and go back to the old school filmmaking styles.

They are now working on the puppet horror feature ABRUPTIO starring the voices of Jordan Peele, James Marsters, Robert England and Hana Mae Lee. Evan wrote and directs the film and Kerry acts in and produces the movie.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We both have a great life and business relationship balance so have yet to meet any roadblocks in that department. Raising finance for our features has always been an up and down struggle, especially as we are a small independent company.

By day Evan is an M.D and he uses a lot of his free time to complete his novels, TV pilots and screenplays, with two small children we often juggle home life and work life but somehow it eventually comes together. The main struggle is a lack of sleep often.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sweet Home Films – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Sweet Home Films is a motion picture production company which predominately creates horror feature films, but also dramatic shorts. We have made two horror features thus far and currently working on our puppet horror ABRUPTIO.

We are proud of our current film as it is a play on the 70s horror films whilst incorporating lifelike puppets. We also managed to attached amazing horror icons to the project (Sid Haig, Robert Englund, James Marsters) and Oscar Winner Jordan Peele.

We may be a small indie production company but we always aim big.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We aim to make ABRUPTIO a cult film and theatrically release it worldwide. Evan has just finished his latest novel and aims to publish later this year.

We also have a couple of TV pilots which we will be pitching, one of which is ‘Carame’ a look at the life of the famous chef. Big changes would be looking at different film projects that may take us overseas.
