Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Boyer.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kenneth. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Arts and design have always been passions of mine. I was active in set and lighting design during my studies in NY and after receiving my BFA in Interior Design, I moved to the west coast to pursue my dreams. I gained invaluable experience while working for fashion retailers, Bloomingdales and Ralph Lauren Home. Inspired by integrating fashion and design, I focused my passion in the world of interiors by launching my own interior design firm: Atelier k.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I originally envisioned entering the hospitality design field while I was studying design in NY. After moving to Los Angeles, and working for Ralph Lauren Home for over seven years, I developed a passion for fine furniture, textiles and designing residential interiors. It took several years before finally taking the leap of being an entrepreneur and working full time. In hindsight, it was worth the wait in gold to learn the trade and how the business really worked before venturing out on my own.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Atelier K story. Tell us more about the business.
Atelier k is a full-service, Los Angeles-based residential and boutique commercial design firm. As the principal designer, I work alongside interior designer, Kristin Gunnette. Kristin and I met while working together at Ralph Lauren Home and we instantly connected through our shared passions and interests in design.
Our company uniquely focuses on creative collaborations with best-in-class artisans, craftsmen, and product manufacturers to create inspirational and luxury interiors for our clients. The Atelier also focuses its time as a bespoke furniture design studio. Inspired by iconic and ever-evolving art, fashion, textiles, and textures, Atelier k’s work shifts the design conversation from standard home design to artistic personal expression.
With an emphasis on designing one-of-a-kind spaces and installations, we are pleased to be one of the design firms selected to display at the 2019 Pasadena Showcase House, a nationally renowned and historic venue.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel fortunate and lucky to have a career that I truly love, along with working with so many talented people on a daily basis. Setting positive intentions and goals have led to many wonderful opportunities, including starting my own design firm.
