Meet Kenneth Averion of Man & Cam Media in Glendora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Averion.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kenneth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I guess I’ve always had an urge to be expressive, but I became more conscious about this later in my high school days. I would have to say I started my creative journey in my youth as I spent a lot of time playing video games. Video games gave me reward without reason and they’re chock-full with audio and visual art. This cultivated a major interest in me with video games and I was battle hardened with the amount of problem-solving skills that it came with it. To be good at most games, you must think and decide your choices efficiently and effectively and I think that eventually led me to Graphic Design.

I spent countless hours indulging in fantastical adventures that were perfectly scored and vividly rendered, but I was still alone with my own thoughts. I first learned to expand and openly be expressive when I later discovered skateboarding. I brought my knowledge and quirkiness from time spent gaming and loved the technical and expressive aspect that skateboarding empowered me with.

Skateboarding exposed me into an amalgamation of cultures. It brought music, art, fashion, photography, and videography into one group. Meeting the likes of punks, hip-hop heads, metal heads, and indie scene kids together for one purpose brought me to a positive community of artists of any background. It was like a cultural explosion for me and it always keeps me looking for something new to do.

After exposure with skateboarding, I eventually practiced graffiti and graduated it into screen printing. I spent time learning that craft and the programs that are associated with it at Pasadena City College and later pursued Graphic Design and completed my Bachelor’s Degree in at California State University of Long Beach. Many years into freelancing I found a place where I call home, Man & Cam Media. I’m exactly where I wanted to be, surrounded by other creatives who inspire me daily.

It surprises me the amount and quality we produce with a tight-knit team. From Identity/Branding Design to Films, we do it all. On top of all that I also just started a music collective that I art direct called Secret Location. We support and feature the underground gems of house music.

Has it been a smooth road?
For me, not so much. I don’t think it really ever is smooth for anyone. I went through years of school, trying to figure out what was my true passion. I think that is the most difficult part about it. The more genuine you are about your craft, the more it will speak to an audience. After that, everything will always come full circle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Man & Cam Media is one stop shop content turn-key business that handles projects from Design, Film, Photography, Social Media Management, and Web Development. I myself am the Lead Graphic Designer and I’m proud of representing our company with our own branding. What sets us apart from other agencies/firms is that we understand projects as the collaborative process. If you do not succeed, then we do not succeed. On top of that, we handle all content needs with strategic analytics and purpose.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like it is rare to find a business like ours within the area of Glendora. But you can open up shop about anywhere to start a content agency.
