Meet Kendelle Lyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendelle Lyn.

Hi Kendelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins with a lot of self-discovery. I started going to Film school wanting to be a writer, however I was a performer for most of my life. After moving to Los Angeles, I discovered this amazing community of gamers. When you think of gamers, I think the average person would think of someone who is lazy, sitting in front of a screen, with energy drinks and snacks all over the desk. There’s also this stereotype that gamers are toxic and aren’t inclusive to women. After finding this group of very supportive gamers, I wanted to create my own community filled with inclusivity and support. Starting on Twitch was a slow burn, but after being collaborative and making connections, I was able to put my drive into passion projects. Over the last few years, I have become a member of a popular Youtube Channel, started my own podcast that deals with news and trivia in the gaming industry, and successfully made a community that is exactly as I set it out to be.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road? There will always be struggles no matter who you are. The struggles everyone faces aren’t the same and that is something we have to acknowledge. My struggles mostly dealt with being welcomed into the gaming community. It’s been a long road for women in the industry, but amazing leaders like Morgan Webb, Olivia Munn, and even Pokimane have made it easier to break that glass ceiling. Doing something I do is mentally exhausting. There will be times you won’t have any viewers on your projects or the support you think you deserve. It makes you want to quit. But the best part of being into passion projects are the friends you made along the way and the experiences you share with them. It hasn’t been smooth, and I don’t expect it to be smooth the entire time. Bring on the challenges!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a gamer. I love playing FPS games and I’m better than the average person. That skill took a lot of time and practice. Being good at shooter games helped me get noticed by a casting director for a popular Youtube channel as well as a sick Dungeons and Dragons podcast called ‘Roll For it’. It’s amazing what gaming can do for you! It’s hard to be in the industry I’m in but it won’t stop me from being a gamer. Being a woman of Asian descent doesn’t negate that. I will always create content. I will always continue to fight for non-toxicity and positivity in the industry. You can find me on Twitch with a loving community and hopefully on to big and better things! Also, co-host a podcast called ‘Geeks about Gaming’ where we talk about current events in the industry and give our opinion on said topics! I absolutely love it and glad my community is there to support it!

How do you think about happiness?
New opportunities for the people around me. It makes me so ecstatic to know my friends are thriving in this world!
