Meet Kelly Soojin Ahn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Soojin Ahn.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am an illustrator in L.A who loves traveling and taking photos. Also, I love home deco, makeup, children’s book, dolls, toys, corgi, coffee, and rainy days. My story is all about everything. I like being extraordinary, unique and creative.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a concept artist/illustrator in L.A and graduated in Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with major in illustration design.

I am working on character design/game art/children’s book illustration/Home décor. My art is all about storytelling. Especially, I love Fairy tale stories and illustrate them.My hobby is collecting toys, dolls, Starbucks cups from all countries, stationary souvenirs from Europe and Asia.

Traveling, taking photos and sketching on my tiny sketchbook to draw and write stories are how I get inspired. I always got awesome ideas when I am on the train in Europe. Different European architecture designs, cultures, people inspire me a lot.

Also, I love looking out window on a rainy day. Too bad it doesn’t rain that much in L.A but definitely rain and coffee make me bring up more stories.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think fighting with reality.
We are artists and we got to keep dreaming but we also have to accept reality in front of us.
I want to design for more children’s book illustration or animation but it’s really hard to get a job in children’s book illustration industry.
Sometimes, we have a job that we don’t want to work on or clients always give you a tight deadline, digital art is always fast and easy. I miss my drawing board and using acrylic painting but nowadays I got to learn more programs and more tech stuffs get a better job. We got to make ourselves busy and keep themselves get inspired.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
