Meet Kelly Lee of Mulberry Tree Design Studio in Miracle Mile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lee.

Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My work reflects each moment’s sentiment. I capture the emotion of everyday life.

Grew up in three different cities, Seoul, Santiago and Los Angeles. Each city is divergent in language, culture and ethnicity.

In my photographs, I attentively include sounds, smells and faint memories from childhood.

My vision is to make a path to walk into the frame and pause to grasp the stillness of emotion. I strive to emphasize the sense of color as vibrant but calm, realizing that the color of life is always beautiful.

I am constantly seeking to capture what’s inside, the intangibles that we all share.

Has it been a smooth road?
As most of the artist, I had to pay the bills so I have been working as an insurance underwriter full time for 10 years. Meanwhile, I constantly took photography classes so that I do not lose my motivation to take pictures.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mulberry Tree Design Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a photographer but also I am an art director. I do not just provide photography but whole art direction as well. I provide an overall cohesive look to the client.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Currently, we are gradually and constantly building up a team. Illustrator, graphic designer, make-up artist, musician, cook, production company, social influencers. In next 5 years, we will be a team of total art direction.
