Meet Kelly deLaat & Rachelle Rosten in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly deLaat and Rachelle Rosten.

Kelly and Rachelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When my youngest child entered kindergarten, I was looking to enter the work force. My husband championed me to get my real estate license because he thought that I “could sell anything”. I got my license in 1998. My second sale in the business was a $7.4 million dollar home in Bel Air. I received the Rookie of the Year award in 1999 and my career began, in a big way.

I met my future business partner, Rachelle Rosten in my training class at Fred Sands Real Estate in 1999. We immediately bonded and relied on each other for advice and encouragement. Real estate is a very tough business to break into…especially on the Westside of LA. It is a very competitive field. Rachelle and I developed a unique way to market and sell trust, probate and conservatorship properties. It is a specific niche that we have targeted and capitalized on. We market to institutions, such as banks and trust companies as well as trust and probate professionals like attorneys and CPA’s. We joke about an area of business that is “market proof”…death and taxes! When people pass, estates needs to be liquidated and properties have to be sold. We step in and provide an array of services, from removing personal property to preparing the homes for sale. Our goal is to maximize the value of the properties while best protecting the fiduciaries in the process. We love what we do and almost 20 years later are at the top of our game!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The real estate market is always changing. It is imperative to adapt to the market and technology, while continuing to grow your business. We are independent contractors, in essence we are business owners. We have honed our skills and developed a strong specialty in the market. The trust and probate world is technical and a much different world that the “standard” real estate arena. We sell all types of properties in all areas of Southern California. We are not limited to specific neighborhoods, we are experts in selling trust, probate and conservatorship properties all over Southern California.

Please tell us about Master Trust & Probate Division of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
We joined Douglas Elliman Real Estate because it is one of the largest brokerages in the U.S. The company was founded in 1911 and has a strong presence, both nationally and internationally. We want to grow our business and the ability to refer clients to other markets is imperative. We have clients who have offices in NYC, Miami, Aspen, etc. We are definitely known for our trade-marked division, The Master Trust & Probate Division of Douglas Elliman Real Estate. We have developed a proactive marketing platform to sell these properties that is second to none. Our success rate speaks for itself and we are always looking to improve.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think there is anything I would do differently. I was very fortunate to find a career that I really love. Real estate can be a very lonely and isolating business. It is up to you, and you alone to build a client base. I was very fortunate to meet a very like-minded partner, early on in my career. We work very hard to achieve success, but we have tons of fun doing it. Laughter is the key!
