Meet Keith Thomas of Eclipse Athletics in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Thomas.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Keith. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I played sports my whole life, starting with football at age three and eventually starting lacrosse at age 14. I found that as my confidence in the sport grew, it overflowed into every area of my life, relationships, grades, self-esteem, etc. I was driven and played lacrosse at the University of Pittsburgh where I also received my B.S. of Neuroscience. It was here that I learned extensively about the connection of the body and mind.

When I moved back to LA, I was ready to start applying some of my passions, coaching High School students in lacrosse and collecting a few private clients who were also looking to develop themselves. I found that when I helped people really address themselves when people were able to see personal training as more than “physical training” they had more successes within our sessions and outside of them.

This personal success came to be my goal: to help people overcome the challenges of life by first helping them experience personal victories with their own bodies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. The industry of personal training is very competitive, and helping people see it as a true investment in their health and happiness can be difficult. In addition, a big part of my job is building confidence. I am honored to take on the role, but it can definitely be difficult when clients struggle to commit to themselves wholeheartedly. I can only push and encourage them, I can’t do the work for them.

Eclipse Athletics – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Eclipse Athletics is a personal training company. I specialize in Neuromuscular Fitness: being able to connect the mind and body. I apply my B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh and my Certification in Personal Training from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to create personalized programs for each client. What sets me apart from many others are not only the results my clients get but their excitement and joy even before they have reached all of their goals.

I help my clients to see that exercising is placing physical stresses on the body with the intention of growth. As they learn to manage these stresses, they learn to manage others as well including sleep and nutrition. This leads to an efficient, scientifically-backed workout program for the greatest results.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would say that, for me, success is knowing I am actually contributing more to the world than I am taking out of it. I look at my finances, the people I keep around me, my family, my business, my physical ability- I look at all of these things and constantly ask myself if I am only using these things for me, or if I’m using them for other people. Will Smith said “If you are not making somebody’s life better, you are wasting your time” and when I heard that as a teenager, it really resonated with me.

To measure my success, I always check my heart towards other people. When friends ask me for advice, do I offer it lovingly? When I hear of someone else’s need, do I offer support? When nobody is asking for anything, am I seeking opportunities to give? These are the main markers for success, and building a business that allows me to build people up really does make me feel that even if I only were to have one client, I would be successful.
