Meet Keia Boyd of Facemop in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keia Boyd.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a young girl, I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry. My love for glam began with watching celebrities, red carpet events, and makeup. I love a good before and after shot. I moved back to my hometown from Las Vegas to pursue my career in 2015. I enrolled into a makeup course in Downtown, Long Beach to become certified. Using color while doing makeup was something I stirred away from since I’ve always had a darker complexion. Makeup helped me to be more confident in my skin. When using makeup, I like to enhance the face not overpower it.

After makeup, then came eyelash extensions. In 2016, I saw a video of a lady doing lashes on Instagram where she was wearing a magnifying headlight. I was immediately intrigued. I thought to myself I want to be a lash doctor, so I began doing research on courses to get certified. I found a four days course in Redondo Beach. I feel in love.
While in my lash course, I was taught the importance of not just being certified, but furthering my education in an esthetician program.

From there, I went to Flavio’s beauty College in Torrance. There was a lot of late nights and early mornings. Going to work from Long Beach in the morning and going to school in Torrance at night. School was very fun and informative. After about six months, I was ready for state board. I passed! I became licensed in May 2017. Early after becoming licensed I started freelance makeup. I experienced working alongside some great women in Redondo Beach, Beverly Hills, and Las Vegas. I learned a lot about the business during this time. I knew I wanted to create my own vibe in my own space one day. I’m proud to say I opened Facemop in July 2019

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Traveling through traffic in L.A is brutal. I knew that to service my clients, I needed a reliable vehicle to get from point A to point B. Not to mention. Driving all around town in L.A isn’t cheap. Self-promoting has also been a challenge for me. I’m friendly and polite, but it’s not easy for me to spark up a conversation with a stranger. I can remember ordering my first box of business cards being so excited. Then the thought of having to hand them to people gave me anxiety.

Please tell us about Facemop.
You should know Facemop doesn’t discriminate. Anyone with lashes that wants longer lashes can have them with lash extensions. What sets me apart from my competitors is my attention to detail and customer service skills. I pride myself on providing a calm and relaxing environment for my clients. People will never forget how you made them feel. Facemop is an experience and black female-owned.

I empower human beings to hold their heads up a little higher everyday. It’s truly amazing to me to see how a full set of lashes can change a person’s confidence level. From the very first time I lashed, I knew I was born for this. My parents named me perfectly Keia LA’SHae. With over 10,000 hours of lashing under my belt COVID 19 slowed things down, but I’ll never stop.

What were you like growing up?
I was quiet and very observant of everything and everyone around me. I spent a lot of time in the mirror whether it was doing my hair, makeup, or eyebrows. I always want to look presentable. I strive in individual activities. I ran track in high school. I’m very comfortable with being in my own lane.
