Meet Keenan Wostenberg of Wokeen Music in Rancho Cucamonga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keenan Wostenberg.

Keenan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for music began when I was a kid living in Colorado away from the industry and the artistry I wanted to be a part of. I had tried to pick up drumming and become a musician in my own right in Colorado, but these hopes were dashed as we moved through the state. After high school, I was accepted into a small film school in San Diego and moved to California to chase my dreams. This is where I realized that music was my real passion.

I began producing on FL Studio using my previous knowledge of drumming to help me pick it up quicker. While I was in film school, I met with an incredible producer, Atrphy, who began to show me the ropes in producing to create a much better sound. I quickly switched to Ableton to achieve a much quicker workflow and overall stronger sound. After graduating from film school, I decided that I wanted to chase my musicianship for as long as I can.

Since then, I have been honing my craft and working everyday to make the best music possible. I have since worked on various projects pushing myself into the Hip hop, R&B, and lofi genres and working with such incredible up-and-coming artists as, Sofila, Chozin, and Atrphy.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a very difficult and amazing road for me. From leaving my entire family and friends behind to being thrust into a completely new environment of creatives, the abnormality of it is the most exciting aspect. The exciting moments of budding opportunity right in front of your face make all the difficult moments of trudging through darkness and confusion worth it. Through the difficulty, the light has always been clear at the end of the tunnel and I refuse to stop moving towards it.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a hip-hop and R&B producer for artists looking for a more cinematic sound. My influences are primarily incredible producers and artists such as Kanye West, JPEGMafia, The Kount, The Alchemist, and Kenny Beats.

I am most proud of the advancement of my sound and of my skills as a producer. I feel that I have shown great discipline in my craft and I have been able to showcase my unique sound in a great way. I believe that I can tailor my work to any artist and create something that they want with as much of my flair as possible. My goal for any artist I work with and myself is to create something that could only have been done by us.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The incredible opportunity here is exactly what is needed for artists. I would absolutely recommend someone move around or in LA, but only once it is affordable as it is also very expensive.

  • I sell beats for $25 to $100
