Meet Kayla Hagström of Naš Mačka in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Hagström.

Kayla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Los Angeles on a whim. While finishing up my college years in Chicago, I knew I wanted to move back to California and I needed to go somewhere warm and new. I booked my one way ticket and came out here without a job or apartment secured. I was excited to change it up, throw myself into something new, and live in a city that I had only visited once before.

My boyfriend decided Los Angeles was also worth a shot so we came out together and lived in an Airbnb for a month before landing jobs and finding an apartment in Silver Lake, the same apartment we live in now, five years later. Right away, I found myself navigating jobs and gigs that took me on both personal and professional adventures.

When I think about arriving here and my introduction to Los Angeles as my home though, the first thing that comes to mind is Rock N’ Roll Camp for Girls. My first summer in LA was spent volunteering in their music video program where campers learn how to produce a music video from start to finish- in just one week! It was my first taste of the unique communities and special opportunities Los Angeles holds space for. Every year I volunteer I find myself surrounded by the most resilient and badass ladies this city has to offer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve been very fortunate to have a solid network of friends and family who have been there to support me through my struggles, whether they were personal or professional. I find myself constantly struggling to figure out exactly what I want for myself while I’m here but I’d say I’ve had a pretty smooth experience so far.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am co-founder of Nas Macka, which is a boutique marketing agency. We specialize in branding, email marketing, and web development. We also offer social media marketing, production, and design services. I’m proud of the clientele base we’ve established over the past year and the work we’ve put out into the world. I’m also really proud of myself and my co-founder, Sky. It’s pretty wild that we met at an agency back in 2018 and, only after knowing each other for a few months, decided to quit and start an agency of our own.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I mostly kept to myself. I had a few close friends and spent a lot of my free time exploring film photography, poetry, and video editing. I liked keeping all of my creative projects secret and I specifically enjoyed anonymously editing videos for people online.
