Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrine Eyer.
Hi Katrine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At the risk of sounding cliché, I must confess that I would not be where I am without my mother. She is the backbone of our family and our family company. We not only look to her for guidance, but we seek her steady presence for hope in trying times. Personally, she has supported me endlessly through all of my endeavors. From running to be class president in my second grade to graduating from the number one public university, I could not have achieved any of my accomplishments without the relentless time and energy my mother devoted to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a business is hard. Running a business as woman is even harder. Running a business as a woman of color in a white, male-dominated industry is especially hard. I cannot speak for my mom/boss’s experiences, but I know that I sometimes find it difficult for people to take me seriously, moreso when they discover I am not white. Sometimes people want to hear the same thing out of a man’s mouth before believing it. That is not to say that I am constantly bombarded with hatred from racists or misogynists. On the contrary, a good number of our customers are kind and understanding, many of them minorities themselves who understand the obstacles that stand in our way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Weldco Sales, Inc. . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Weldco manufactures glass rack bodies for trucks and vans to haul glass from place to place. All we build are glass racks all day, making us specialists in the industry. Our superb engineering and finish set us apart from other competitors. Each and every rack is custom-built for its respective truck or van to maximize capacity, strength, and longevity. In addition to our quality products, our small business allows us to know all of our customers intimately, providing unbeatable and personalized customer service to everyone.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love being in Los Angeles. We are in a hub among many other manufacturing companies here in Santa Fe Springs. Our suppliers are easily accessible, and our customers can come to us more easily as well.
On a personal level, I love being by the beach and being close to so many attractions such as Disneyland and Universal. The cuisine is so diverse and delicious. That being said, I wish the city did more to clean up the streets. It’s been devastating watching the city I grew up in slowly deteriorate to crime and garbage.
