Meet Katie McCabe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie McCabe.

Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Katie – a travel writer and photographer from LA.

When my husband and I began traveling a lot in 2015, I started A Well Traveled Pair to document our adventures and to also offer guides and tips for other people looking to do the same.

Over the past seven years, we have hiked Machu Picchu, swam in the Great Barrier Reef, bungee jumped in New Zealand, explored the Great Pyramid of Giza, and so much more. What started merely as a hobby quickly became a job, and now I write for numerous publications and advertise for hotels and tourism boards around the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to say, it’s been a pretty smooth road along the way. Sure, there have been little hiccups here and there, but nothing that can overshadow the gratitude that I have for being able to see the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do and what you are most proud of?
I am a travel writer and photographer. Just saying that makes me proud. I never considered myself a good writer, certainly not good enough to be published in magazines. And the fact that my photographs are now being used by tourism boards, and in different publications around the world, it’s extremely gratifying.

All the achievements aside, though, the thing that makes me feel the most proud is when someone tells me they traveled to a place because they were inspired by my work. I quickly learned that travel is our greatest teacher, so knowing that I inspire others to get out there and learn from the world, well, that makes me incredibly happy.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I actually have a fear of flying. You would think that after all the flights I’ve taken I’d be over it by now, but I’m not. I don’t let it hold me back, though. I still continue to fly to destinations all over the world.
