Meet Kathryn Perlin of Sap+Honey in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Perlin.

Kathryn is the owner of the children’s boutique Sap and Honey, which recently opened in Sherman Oaks. She began her career designing kids clothing for Gap Inc. before spent several years in merchandise design and store management in her hometown of Claremont, CA. She has always had a passion for curating beautiful clothing for children and loves to provide an experience for her customers. She conveniently lives around the corner from the store with her husband Jacob and their three beautiful children, with a fourth child due this June.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can Happily say the road to opening my business has been relatively smooth. I believe that’s because I have such a passion for what I’m doing. Every step of the way I am excited for the challenge of learning something new. From the build-out to the buying, to merchandising I have the freedom to try new things and to really see my vision come to life!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sap+Honey is a Children’s clothing and gift boutique specializing in fine things for sticky fingers. Most of our clothing and gifts come from European and American designers that have a reputation for quality and use the finest fabrics and materials. Having three children myself and one due in June, I know the importance of a well-made garment that will last. I can honestly say I have tried out every brand I carry and make it a priority that the material will wash well and can be passed along while still keeping a fresh look. We also have a great variety of Shoes, gifts, books, and decor. We are very excited to Stock some beautiful cribs and bedding. There really is something for everyone!

What were you like growing up?
As a child I was very creative, I was constantly surrounded by a whirlwind of art projects. I sewed all sorts of things and tried selling them to the people in my neighborhood. I knew at an early age that I wanted to be in fashion. I fell in love with the retail side later after working as a merchandiser and seeing the effect the product and the way it was displayed had on the customer. It was like creating a bit of magic just seeing the twinkle in someone’s eyes as they walked into the store became invigorating!
