Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Ctvrtlik.
Katelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, health and wellness were always deeply rooted in my life. At the age of 16, after numerous injuries as a dancer, I found the Pilates Method and GYROTONIC® Method. I became so enamored with both methods that I convinced my instructor to give me a key to her studio so I could self-practice. While studying Dance, Psychology and Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I completed my Advanced Certification from the Pilates Center at Boulder in 2014 and my GYROTONIC® Certification in 2011. In 2017, I also completed my Health Coaching Certification from Duke University to open up my skill sets for my clients.
Now as the owner of Pilates Place Hermosa Beach, my goal is to create a space for everyone to benefit from movement at any age or level. I have built a diverse roster of clients ranging from NBA, NHL and NFL players all the way to clients with chronic pain and spinal fusions. As the studio continues to grow, I am channeling into different networks and I am beginning to teach Corporate Pilates & Wellness Programs around Los Angeles.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey as a small business owner has had its ups and downs for numerous reasons. But I would have to say that my age and therefore my experience level as a business owner has by far been my biggest challenge. I took over Pilates Place when I was 23 years old. The studio had been running for seven years and I was the new spring chicken in the studio, not to mention the boss. Every problem and challenge that arose was a new one for me. I have made many mistakes and I am grateful for each of them because they made me learn and grow along the way. Almost five years later and I am finally getting the hang of it!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pilates Place Hermosa Beach – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Our mission is to teach healthy, full-bodied movement to restore vitality and empower our client’s mind, body and soul. We are a movement boutique, in the heart of Hermosa Beach, offering the highest-quality classical Pilates and GYROTONIC® instruction to the local community through private and semi-private sessions.
Pilates Place has been a critically acclaimed studio in South Bay for 12 years. We are a fully equipped classical studio that has only top-of-the-line Gratz Pilates Equipment. All of our instructors are constantly looking for new ways to enhance their movement-based knowledge through continued education courses. We work to provide a space in Hermosa Beach that enhances our community’s health and wellness.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Hermosa Beach is the biggest hidden gem in Los Angeles. It has the feel of a charming beach town without the slow pace. In fact, I live a 5-minute walk to my studio because I truly love it so much. The community here is supportive and all the businesses look out for each other like they are family.
The one thing I like the least about Hermosa Beach is PARKING! I think any resident and business people around the area would agree with me that it is a struggle to find a spot. Sometimes it makes more sense to walk, bike or even Uber. I guess that is what you get for living in such a beloved place, too many people! Thank goodness we have a parking lot at the studio.
