Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Branchman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kat. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Transformational mindset coach. I am a wife and mother of two. After graduating with my Masters in 2016, I launched a web series, “Life With Kat,” where I share my journey of losing over 100lbs and starting my own business.
I was born and raised in Long Beach Ca where I graduated from Long Beach Poly high school. After graduating I moved down South to Alabama and attended Alabama state university at 17 years old. Later, I met my husband and had our oldest daughter Jada. As young parents, we decided to move to California to live our dreams as entrepreneurs.
On my journey of finding my path to stardom, I had a hard time understanding my gift. I worked as a bartender, gas station manager, waitress, best buy computer saleswoman, case manager for a nonprofit, nightclub manager, property manager and even handled sales and taxes for a wine company. I hated every single one of those jobs. I dreaded clocking in every day. But what I did enjoy was making my coworkers and customers laugh and feel excited.
It made me feel good to know folks were thrilled to know I was working the same shift as them. I found myself giving advice, motivating and educating no matter what was going on. I even had friends who would schedule to call me, skype or come to my home for appointments concerning life’s hardships they were facing. All the while I tried to figure out what made me special? What was my gift? Finally, after finishing my master’s program I realized that I was a natural life coach.
Since the third grade, I made it my business to help others manage their business. (check out this video of me telling the story of me in third grade. Very funny https://youtu.be/jd4qicY9Tww).
I decided to give in and call myself a life coach because after all, I had been doing that naturally for years. Within a few months, I had also realized, who would trust me with their life problems when I had a huge one of my own. I was 298 pounds. Long story short I embarked on a journey that would lead me to lose over 113 pounds. As I documented my journey on youtube and Instagram I gained more and more followers.
Since losing over 113 pounds and started my speaking career. I have two websites Katbranchman.com and TheRealLoserBench.com where I have clients I coach for weight loss and life coaching. I have a successful YouTube page that can be accessed here https://www.youtube.com/user/TeamBramchman. I have over 60 videos with a total of 70k views and counting. I was also featured on the T.D. Jakes show that can be viewed here https://youtu.be/yXIBWcY_J3c skip to 12:04.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge I have faced is producing with limited resources. As a new entrepreneur, I have never struggled with new ideas, concepts plans or projects. I have never worried about individuals coping me or replicating my ideas because I am so unique. But big ideas need big money and that is something I lack. I have had to become extremely strategic when it comes to executing my big ideas.
I try my hardest to produce high-quality content using whatever means I have. That means I am the makeup artist, the director, producer of content, editor, sound guy, post-production, engineer and even the talent.
Although this has been an uphill battle I remind myself I am creative and a fighter who was made for this. After all, I finished a masters program with no computer. That took creativity, good time management and lots of humility. Having to write 15-page papers using whatever computer I could get my hands on was difficult. Borrowing, using public spaces and even typing on my phone when necessary.
So when issues come up concerning my business I laugh and just tell myself, “You’ve had to figure out worse Kat. So what you gonna do?”
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kat Branchman – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a life coach, speaker and strategist. As a life coach, I specialize in transforming the ideology of a person. I use my gift of empathy, strategy and communication to come up with creative ways to show the client why things are not working in their favor. After identifying why things are the way they are I use my wit, humor and knowledge to create alternate stories. These stories allow me to partner with my client and show them what their lives would be like if they ever decided to change.
As a speaker and host, I am known for my humor and deep revelation. Many clients who have hired me know that while I am good at entertaining I also have a strong gift of getting to the heart of matters, be it a group or individual.
I am very proud of my ability to shine, serve and stand out in any environment. I have spoken at small intimate high tea ceremonies as well as rock the room of a large conference. In both cases, I was able to connect with the audience. My need to be transparent and venerable is what sets me apart. People love to feel free and connected. It is in our human nature. It is that principle coupled with my individuality that allows me to be unique.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how diverse my city is. I had the opportunity to grow up in a multi-ethnic education system that allowed me to be exposed to others narratives. That greatly affected the way I see the world. I love Long Beach because it was big enough to be adventurous, yet small enough to feel at home.
If I had one critique, I hate this new bike initiative. It’s cool that they are trying to combat all the air pollution by giving folks another way to travel. But if I see one more bike rider in the middle of the street going 7 mph I think I’m going to scream.
