Meet Karly Treacy of KT Method in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karly Treacy.

Karly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The KT Method was born of 25+ years of studying the body and movement and my own pelvic floor challenges. I had been an athlete and was teaching fitness and movement for years leading up to my pregnancies. My body had always “bounced back” well and I felt strong! After the birth of my 3rd child, I noticed I had some skin hanging out of my vagina. When I went to my doctor to ask if they could “snip it off” because it was uncomfortable, they informed me that that “skin” was in fact, my bladder. It had prolapsed, and above that, my bowel and urethra had prolapsed as well. This was devastating news to me. I couldn’t fathom how this had happened to my body. Not to mention, it felt like there could be nothing less sexy for a 36 years old mother of 3 to hear! I mean sure, I was peeing my pants all the time and that wasn’t sexy either but this… this felt worse. I was referred to a Urogynecologist to discuss my options. This surgeon told me I absolutely had to have surgery. There was nothing that could be done other than to put mesh (known to cause cancer) into my body to lift and hold the organs in place. I asked them what would happen if I did nothing and spent some time studying to try to understand what had happened in my body. I was assured that it couldn’t possibly get any worse and that I could try Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, but I was too far gone.

After many appointments with the best physical therapists in LA, I started learning from them and feeling what worked and what did not in my own body. Countless hours spent studying respiration and how it affects the Pelvic Floor, then combining all I learned with my years in movement, I figured out what went awry and how I could potentially heal myself. I then developed a protocol that I did every day for about six months and healed my significant Pelvic Organ Prolapse! At this point, I sought out a different Urogynecologist and found Rebecca Nelken—the smartest, kindest, most progressive woman here in LA! I went in for another evaluation to have her repair the Urethral Prolapse (nothing you can do when the U falls out of your Urethra) and to give me the “your vagina is functioning well” clean bill of health! I have now taken all of this knowledge and experience and have turned it into a Pelvic Floor restoration Program, infused with a TOTAL body fitness class, and all of the Pelvic Floor Retraining that all women NEED!

Has it been a smooth road?
I had been teaching workshops and training women privately for years and guiding them to heal themselves. I had a strong desire to get this information out to the masses so women everywhere could understand that they do not have to suffer from Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, low belly bulge, low back pain, hip pain, painful sex or most commonly, bladder and/or bowel incontinence. As a working mama of 3, I just hadn’t had the time to sit still and get quiet enough for long enough to allow what needed to get launched out into the world to come through me. Then COVID quarantine hit, and I had the time, the space and the desire to create, and it all came through!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
