Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Isais.
Karla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been in the design industry for over a decade and when I moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, it gave me the courage to start my own business. It was an exciting time of discovering a new city, moving in with my long distance boyfriend and wanting to learn more about starting a design business. Perhaps it was that creative vibe that L.A. has that motivated me to get out and network and learn. Even though networking events can be daunting for me. It all started with one client and I am extremely grateful to all my clients for trusting me in creating a design for their home oasis. I love Interior Design!
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s definitely been a learning curve when it comes to the business side of things and in design, there is always something that comes up. The challenges we face can be anywhere from delayed deliveries or finding out the ground a project is getting built on, has caliche soil, an expensive soil to dig out. How does that affect interior design? It cuts the budget for the pretty things! But we are here for all the challenges and thrive through innovation.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
We are an Interior Design Studio specializing in residential design. I am passionate about designing homes from the ground up but no project is too small. I’m personally at a point in my life where I can apply my design skills to my own space and want to help clients who are in the same position. You know, finally letting go of those hand me down pieces and starting to create a cohesive look. With that said, I understand how personal the design of a home can be and want to help translate a client’s wishes into a design they’ll love. Our environment is essential to our well being!
When it comes to design, I love playing with the existing space and adding a modern eclectic flare. The project I completed most recently is full of color, pattern and natural stone features. The project is located in Las Vegas and I can’t help but add a touch of glam to a space like this one.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The green movement is going to continue to grow and develop new ways of making materials, furniture, etc… Perhaps the use of more 3D printed furniture that is accessible in a good price point to all consumers will be taking over the market. For design trends, it really depends on location but for SoCal I expect that the casual refined look in a home will continue to flourish with more use of bright colors.
