Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Rabin.
Karina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My husband Jared and I met on JDate and got engaged 3 months after we met. We started to plan our Jewish wedding but had trouble finding a vendor with reasonable Chuppah prices. Jared and I were both business savvy and thought it would be fun to build our own Chuppah and go into a rental business ourselves. Little did we know how hard it was going to be to build a Chuppah and it was a lot of trial an error. In fact, the Chuppah that we used at our wedding ended up falling hours AFTER our ceremony because it got windy really late and we didn’t have anyone to take it down. Once we created our business, we never used the Chuppah we had built and have figured out how to build a strong a structure that would stand in any wind environment. Today we have over 10 beautiful Chuppah’s that couples can choose from.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle, in the beginning, was building the frames and to make sure that they would stand in the wind. We have been to some very windy environments such as the beach and some venues have a lot of wind because of where they are. We had to figure out a way to market our new venture and Google Ad words worked for us the best. It also took sometimes to get on the first page of Google using an SEO service. However, in the first year or our business, we did manage to do 100 weddings and we grew from there.
Happy Chuppah – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in wedding rentals. We rent Canopies, Chuppah’s, Birch Chuppah, Wood and Metah Chuppah. We initially thought we would cater to Jewish weddings but since then we have done weddings for any religion. What sets us apart is that we believe the wedding is all about you and we do whatever the couple desires. We are still a husband and wife team and we are very proud of what we have built.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success by having a family and being happily married after 10 years. As I mentioned before we met and got married petty quickly. To have been able to start a company and a marriage almost at the same time is a lot of hard work but we love it. Now we have two beautiful children and still enjoy watching others take the same marital journey as we did.
