Meet Karina Murillo of Diamondevents

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Murillo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My first event that I planned was my parents 25th Anniversary in 2006. It was fun and enjoyed all the details of planning a special event. Then my sister was getting married in 2007, so I helped her.

After friends and family knew that I was planning events, they would reach out to me. It was more of a hobby for me. It was until I got laid off from my job in 2013 that I decided to start my own event planning business. I had to stop due to my mother’s health. My mother passed away to Cancer in Feb 2015.

My mother was my biggest supporter to begin this business after her death I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue. So I decided to take some time off. When I found out that I was expecting my first child, I was excited, and all I could think about was planning the baby shower and all the birthday parties. Ideas just pop in my head daily. I’m constantly thinking about ideas all day.

After planning my daughter’s baptism in 2017, I started to receive inquiry’s from family and friends if I could plan their events. I felt that I was finally doing what made me happy. That year I planned over ten events, and I was speechless. I could not believe how a small dream that I had was actually becoming true.

This brings me so much joy and happiness I don’t know how to explain it, but I’m passionate in planning weddings and special events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road with the loss of my mother I decided to stop and wasn’t sure if I would continue. Her loss affected me mentally and physically. It really took a toll on me.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I design and plan any special events such as weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, and birthday parties. I just love creating beautiful events and dessert tables. The amazing clients that I have. I started from no events to having over ten events a year. I just have an eye for décor and designs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would say planning and coordinating two weddings after giving birth to my son. I didn’t know if I would have the energy after having a baby.
