Meet Karin Adoni of Sugar Free Queen in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karin Adoni.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I wish I could say that I’ve always known that I wanted to be a nutritionist, that helping people take control of their health was at the forefront of my drive since a young age, however, that is not my story. My passion for nutrition actually grew from my own need for help. From about age 10 into my early twenties I suffered from a severe eating disorder. It wasn’t until I was able to help myself that I realized that I had the potential to help other people. After my recovery is when I decided to change my life’s path and devote myself to helping others gain control of their health and overcome the emotional ties they have to food.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I mentioned previously I battled an eating disorder for over a decade. Although this self-inflicted disease was one of the darkest times in my life it is also what made me realize that weight and health is influenced just as much from our emotional behaviors as it is from our eating behaviors. This realization, although painful, allows me to have a better understanding of how and why people make specific food decisions. Losing weight goes beyond just knowing what to eat, it is about how we eat, when we eat, and why we eat the things we are eating. This connection between emotions food and behavior is at the core of my practice and is what has helped me bring so much success to my clients.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sugar Free Queen – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company, Sugar Free Queen, offers private nutrition counseling as well as group nutritional workshops (online and in person). We are famous for our 21 Day Sugar Free Detox which is a group workshop which takes participants through sugar withdrawal regulating their bodies back to their naturally balanced blood sugar levels through a clean food diet. Recently we have adapted our famous program for the corporate setting and are now offering corporate wellness workshops. We have been working really hard on developing this program and are super excited about it. In addition, I have a cooking partnership with Whole foods where I travel to their various locations to share my unique healthy recipes with customers. This is such a fun part of my job because I love to cook and I love teaching people that health does not need to come at the expense of taste. Food can be fun, easy, delicious, AND healthy and I like sharing that. I am also working on a clean eating cookbook which should be out sometime next spring along with our 21 Day Detox book.

I would say that we specialize in educating our clients on the whole scope of the weight loss process so that they are as well versed in the behavioral and emotional aspect of weight loss as much as they are in the medical and nutritional aspect. We can attribute a great deal of our client’s success to our focus on the mind and spirit as well as the body. We educate our clients so that when they are faced with certain health or food situations they have the tools they need to make wise choices. We pride ourselves on the notion that no change can be made overnight and no change will be made permanently if there is no understanding behind what, how and why we are eating the foods that we are eating. I think offering this reality of weight loss as opposed to a quick fix fad diet is what sets us apart from other brands.

I would have to say what I am most proud of is my clients both personal and from my workshops. Their success is our success and it truly serves as the fuel for our growing business. My clients have truly made my job such a pleasure and make doing what I do so easy.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now were are really focused on expanding the brand. We have two books in the works, the first is an adaptation of our wildly successful 21 Day Sugar Free Detox and the second is a clean eating cookbook curated by me and inspired by the detox. The books are really exciting for us because they give us the opportunity to reach a larger audience. Since the beginning my passion has been to educate people on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and the behaviors associated with weight loss and these books are a great platform for spreading that knowledge. We are also working on expanding our online presence and growing our online workshops. We want to be able to help people on a mass scale and the online programs allow us to do just that. We are constantly working on the online program and finding ways to make it as intimate as possible.

Additionally, I want to continue giving lectures and spreading my knowledge to one audience in particular, parents. Currently, I am giving lectures locally at various elementary schools and day cares but I am working on expanding these lectures outside the Los Angeles area. I believe this is the most important thing I can contribute as a health professional because parents mold our children and our children are the future. Parents need to be given the right tools so that their children are able to develop healthy habits. The habits we learn at an early age are the ones we are most likely to carry into later life, parents play the leading role in creating those healthy habits. To be able to help influence that in the slightest is just a dream.

Lastly, as I just mentioned we’re really looking forward to getting into the corporate setting. Health and wellness is said to be the new frontier and fuel for the successful business of tomorrow. Corporate wellness contributes to managing staff stress, decreasing sick leave, increasing staff motivation and productivity, improving work and life balance, improving staff relation and support, and lastly greater return on investment. I see so much potential in this growing industry it’s a win win for us and employees everywhere.
