Meet Kari Whitman of Kari Whitman Interiors in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Whitman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had an affinity for design since I was young. Unfortunately, my mother pushed me into modeling and acting but I was smart enough to get out of all that. Once being in LA for a few years and booking a few cool modeling and acting jobs I realized it wasn’t for me. I was lucky enough to work with Emilio Estevez on a movie and eventually he became one of my first interior design clients. That got the ball rolling for me and I have never looked back as design, architecture, and use of space, especially if its earth friendly, is my true calling.

The only other career I could ever imagine engaging in would be an art dealer. My design is focused around art, the client’s lifestyle and our precious mother Earth.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’m lucky it’s been a fairly smooth road yet. I am so blessed the type of clients that I do and the wonderful staff that helps me execute all this. The only struggle is dealing with city permits, especially in Malibu, New York City, and Boulder, Colorado.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a company, I am most proud of always meeting our deadlines, always thinking outside of the box, where all my projects are very different and diverse. I’m known for using a lot of art, earth friendly materials, dog/cat-friendly materials, and having a “one stop shop” firm. This means we are contractors, architects, and designers, so the client doesn’t have to deal with many different companies. I think this definitely sets us apart from the others especially because we do commercial and residential.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
What I like about LA is the diversity, art, the creativity and being able to surf one day and ski the next day. What I dislike is the smog, the traffic, and waiting in line, I’m impatient.
