Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Thomas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kareem. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started growing up as a kid, I developed a passion for collecting sneakers. I would buy, sell and collect sneakers such as Nikes and Jordans. It became a passion of mine which eventually connected me with some creative and artistic individuals. Over my childhood years, I would collect sneakers then meet up with my new friends to take pictures, modeling our new shoes and outfits. It was a part of the sneakerhead culture. Then Xanga and myspace came along and gave us all a platform to share our content somewhere other than sole collector and Nike forums. It got to the point where I would meet up with a bunch of other sneakerheads, travel to Soho, NY and take pictures all day while we hung out.
Subconsciously I started to develop a passion for modeling which is what some would say I was doing all those years meeting up with other creatives to create content based around fashion. After my college and professional basketball career was over, I decided to tap back into my passion for modeling and fashion which started to create new opportunities. Fashion brands and blogs began to reach out to me asking for permission to share my content on their platforms. That same year a few reality tv casting directors started to reach out to me asking if I’d be interested in potentially landing a spot on the upcoming season of their shows. Initially, I did not take any of them seriously but one day, I received a phone call from a casting director asking if I’d be interested joining the cast of the new season of a show called Temptation Island on USA Network. Since then, I was fortunate enough to be one of the male models in Meg The Stallions’ music video for her hit song “Captain Hook” right before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the United States.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My new career as a model/TV personality has been smooth overall but it is only the beginning. I do understand there will be trials and tribulations as I search for new opportunities in the industry but I am someone who understands that failure is just a lesson and a new opportunity to come back stronger, better and wiser. I believe very strongly in failing forward and as fast as possible. I’ve experienced failure in business, relationships and sports and it’s all the same. Some lessons were tougher than others but overall the goal always remained the same.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I would like to consider myself Entrepreneur and not just a model/TV personality. My reason for saying that is because I act on a lot of my passions. I am a business owner and a full-time Financial Consultant by day. I am mainly known for my role on the hit reality TV show Temptation Island Season 2 on USA network. I am proud of every single one of my accomplishments thus far and I wouldn’t be on this path if it wasn’t for God. He has blessed me throughout my journey time and time again and I am even more excited about his future plans for me. I do not believe anything sets me apart from others. I believe everyone has the ability to chase their dreams and strive to be the best version of themselves every day and that is exactly what I am doing day in and day out, every minute every second and every hour.
