Meet Kameale Terry of ChargerHelp! in South Central Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameale Terry.

Kameale, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Prior to launching ChargerHelp! I worked for a company that provided software for electric vehicle charging stations. During my time there, I stood up our customer experience department, network operations center, and programs department. In my last role, my team was responsible for EVSE infrastructure build-out in the United States as well as advising the build for network providers in Australia and Canada.

While finding electrical contractors to complete the installation of the charging station was easy. When our stations went down, we were often waiting a week to have someone get onsite and many times stations were left broken for 30 days. Many times because the station was actually experiencing a software issue, firmware issue, or a connectivity issue – not an electrical issue.

This problem was not just at my company but it was an industry-wide problem. We lacked an easily accessible workforce that could solve both software and hardware issues in the field.

That’s where ChargerHelp! Comes in. We have built a mobile app and platform that enables on demand repair of electric vehicle charging stations by enabling a communities local workforce. We are getting people and EV charging stations back to work. Our app dispatch technicians within one day instead of 7 days and solves tier 1 issues within two days instead of 30 days.

We believe that an equitable green economy can be achieved through workforce development.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Raising capital as a black female founder in clean technology is interesting. While we receive a lot of in bound inquiries, we have to be aware that some folks may only take first meetings to settle quotas. We also have to be aware of the funds that popping up that are dedicated to black founders and if it’ll signal sometimes poorly about us later on if we want to follow on funding.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood is driving from Los Angeles all the way to Belize! At age six, I learned about where my parents came from and their home, and why they decided to come to the U.S. This was an eye-opening experience at a young age and made me appreciate my family for their sacrifice.
