Meet Kaitlin Ward of Base Clothing Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Ward.

Kaitlin, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to LA in 2014 to further my career in the film industry, specifically hoping to join the union and be a set costumer. After working nonstop for four years on countless TV shows, movies, and commercials, I realized the film industry wasn’t where I saw my future self. This is when I decided I wanted to continue working with clothing but on my terms. Alongside my friend Courtney Manitius, Base Clothing Company became a reality. Courtney is the owner of East + Sunset, a creative branding and design agency. With her skill set in all things digital and my knowledge in clothing, we launched Base in June 2019, as a one-stop-shop for women’s classic closet staples.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say smooth or a struggle. We’ve been having so much fun sourcing, styling, and shooting our clothing. As with any business, we take it day by day and tackle any challenges that may arise.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Base Clothing Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Base offers the basics that you wear again and again, at an affordable price. Our pieces are quality, comfortable, and versatile. They are hand-picked by us and made in the USA. Everything we sell is black or white because our mission is for women to pair a BASE with their favorite clothing and accessories that are already in their closets. No matter the colors, styles, or trends that you love, Base pairs perfectly. Personally, I love to invest in jackets, shoes, and bags. I found myself always struggling to find the right basics to bring it all together. Now that I have Base, getting dressed everyday is a lot easier.

We wanted to streamline your must have basics into a one-stop-shop. We are well- aware of the extensive purchasing options for clothing and how overwhelming and time-consuming it can be. We are proud to offer Base to the world while staying true to ourselves and what we believe in. Creating for women, by women, and keeping it all American made. We are creating in our own way and on our own time.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We will continue adding to our line and aim to build brand loyalty in the process. We hope to eventually have an in-store presence as well. We would also love to go into menswear in the future because guys need basics too!

In the more short term future, we are looking forward to doing Holiday pop-ups where people can get their hands on our clothing. Currently, we only offer an online presence, so this will give us the opportunity to showcase our products in a new way, and allow people to feel just how soft and quality every piece is.
