Meet Kain Fowler of Novakain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kain Fowler.

Kain, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m professionally known as Novakain or Kidrackz, a Detroit-based Rapper and Producer who started my music career in 2011 teaching myself to mix, master, and produce my own songs. Jumping into the Detroit rap scene in 2015, I released my debut mixtape “BRAVO”. Alongside The Captwolf Collective we made a name for ourselves with our debut album “Liquor Store Pizza Party At My Crib”. From the clever, weed-fueled punchlines to my many endlessly smooth flows, I have tapped into an alternative and nostalgic sound, drawing influences from: Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Drake, Kid Cudi and Kanye West.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not easy. From trying to teach myself to mix and master my songs with no schooling to trying to find my “sound” and who I am as an artist are a few things that I’ve had to overcome that have made me doubt myself. Another thing is being so young coming into the scene you don’t know what to expect and who to trust. People will try to take advantage of that. Let’s just say experience is the best teacher.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Rapper, Producer, and Audio Engineer. In short, I smoke weed and make hits. No, but seriously, I aim to make music that makes you feel good. Or at least live, if that makes sense? But, I’m proud of all the supporters that me and my team have gained through the last six years of learning and grinding. I’m proud that I got my debut single (Scrumptious) to be played on Detroit’s biggest radio station 107.5. I’m proud of that fact that I could get my debut EP (KainStation) a write up on Lyrical Lemonade. That one is still wild to me. I’m very open with my style and sound. I’m not afraid to try new things in the studio. No boxes. Whatever comes to me I let it flow.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To drop new content every month. I want my name in people’s mouths & my voice in people’s speakers. I’ll be releasing my official website this year & I’m working on merch as well. I’m coming for heads 2021!
